Endless links to one sided 'arguments' from less than reputable sources from the internet? Has anyone seen Parchmore and Gusset in the same room together?

I think I understand why the church doesn't teach about hell anymore. Parchmore has probably highlighted the way to turn people away from christianity more than even the westboro baptist church, with their hellfire and damnation for all message, could do. The atheists who use condescending phrases to disparage christian beliefs are quite rude and would probably help themselves by being a little more respectful of others' viewpoint. Don't agree but by using terms like 'spagghetti monster,' 'sky fairy' and other cliched phrases its causing antagonism and reflects badly on your own position and argument. Ironically, that has its origins in Robert Anton Wilson, who whilst not a Christian, was certainly a believer in the mystical and preternatural - and a life long agnostic - Originally it was used to debunk not belief, but the idea of the certainty of rationalism as professed by James Randi etc. But usually used by, mainly, atheists on the hol, alongside terms such as sky fairies, in a condescending tone to be disrespectful to those who have a christian, or other, faith. ''What can be asserted without evidence can also be dismissed without evidence'' And so the sky fairy is born. The day a single shred of proper evidence is offered up is also the day religion will get more than a bit of eyeball rolling from me. Until that day it is a work of fiction & deserves a place alongside such mythological nonsense as Minotaurs & Chupacabra's.
Of course I do & thats why I am out, It is no more believable than any other mythological creature, you are welcome to believe in what you like but a secular society is what I desire. We have the mad Creationist Parchmore (someone willing to admit that humans walked the earth with dinosaurs yet the dinos all died in the 'great flood' & well Noah...) pushing sermons & testimonies claiming this is evidence & then we have Reborn going for the oppressed Christian angle whilst constantly talking about himself & claiming to have seen god yet (theres plenty of scientific evidence for this) the probability leans heavily on it being flash backs from a past full of drugs. You people are Crazy.
Wow, Dan you have got sooo many generalisations and assumptions here it's incredible man. Not quite sure where you get the 'oppressed Christian' angle from. I am guessing its because I point out how all the insults flow one way? Also attributing my belief in God to drug induced flashbacks is hilarious. I actually run a multi million pound recruitment agency, lead massive teams and well am a pretty assured, rational guy these days. I know that doesn't fit with the image you are trying to project on me, but here we are all the same. I get you think its nonsense, but I just don't get why it makes you froth at the mouth so much. Please enlighten me?

Reborn - why do your views (and those of other religious believers) deserve or demand respect? Do your political views deserve equally unquestioned respect? If I said that I devoutly and sincerely believed that trees and ponds contained nature gods would you patiently acknowledge my spritual journey or would you dismiss it as baloney?
So would most things, fortunately ideas are a historical progression of discourse resolution. Religion itself included. The idea of Christianity, for instance, required a number of much later historical developments - Most notably Emperor Constatine, the death of Julian, the rise of Catholicism and Pope Innocent the I (establishment of a cannoncial biblical account) and of course the first council of Nicea Then you have Thomas Aquinas and Augustine, plus of course you have to have the protestant declaration, Martin Luther and Calvin, before you can even really start to think about a foundation of modern Christianity. Very early Christian faiths were very different, almost completely alien to the modern worshiper - Massive changes in theology and philosophy, occurred before the idea of a 'Christianity' was even considered - and even then that only really applies to Western Christianity. A Muslim scholar once said to me, that its not as important to believe, but to try to understand, that everything you learn brings you closer to God's creation. But that you will never truly understand it, only be enriched by it.
Jesus didn't come to start a Religion, men did that and that's what went wrong.

Jesus didn't come to start a Religion, men did that and that's what went wrong. Not really the idea of a christainity comes from the catholic definintions, expanded to include 'accepted forms' such as Protestantism, that fits with a set of beliefs, it doesn't include the pre-Church gnostic faiths (such as Assyrian church). We describe them as 'Christians' but they aren't, in the strict definition, any more Christian than say Qakers (who don't describe themselves as chritain or surviving Cathar faith groups). In our modern age we tend to see anyone who 'has a Christ based faith' as Christian, but that's not really what the term means. It requires some rather specific requirements, which other Christ groups reject.

Jesus didn't come to start a Religion, men did that and that's what went wrong. Interestingly, I think you have a good point here, but they are somewhat reductionist (similar to how the use of the term heathen and pagan were used by Romans, despite themselves being what we'd now call heathen and pagan). They do mean it in a term where by 'all Christians' would be included, unlike Catholicism et al who mean it to include only certain Christ worshipers (ie those who accept the bible as the sole source, accept the significance of baptism and that Christ is the only saviour - good works alone won't be enough).
