Self-righteous frothing and spluttering is always a joy to witness.

We are into page 4 and still no tangibility to how gay people are discriminated against at football and by whom and even if they are what the f*** anyone's supposed to do about it.

Its just another ill thought out knee jerk 'right on' campaign to a prejudice that isn't seemingly there or if it is it certainly unwarranted.

What are these 11 clubs actually going to be doing ????

Still waiting for someone to clarify how anyone's rights are being denied and/or anyone is being in some way discriminated against to such a degree that this sort of campaign becomes necessary.

Quite right. No such thing as indirect discrimination which was merely created to give employment lawyers work to do.

Can anyone remind me how many 'out' gay footballers there are again please. There are at least 4,000 professional footballers in the UK so 1.5% of that is 60 gay (excluding bisexual) footballers.

Edited by Mapletree (06 Feb 2014 8.32pm)

So what?

Oh for goodness sake. There is a small group of gay men in professional football that have not come out. People wonder why they haven't come out and suspect it is due to deep rooted anti-gay sentiment. Well no sh*t Sherlock, you just have to read HOL.

It's not a big issue but it is indicative of a wider issue of intolerance.

A few people decide to try to do something about it, presumably a mix of straight and gay people. Everyone gets fired up saying it's not needed, will rock the boat too much, blah blah.

The inherent conservatism on this site is mind-boggling and sadly I assume reflects the broader football supporting family. And I would have thought that - living where we do and drawing supporters from a reasonably tolerant and educated pool - we can't be the worst.

People even have a pop at the HF, one of the few unique things we have going for us.

I bl**dy wish people would stop moaning and try to actually be 'do-gooders'. Why is that a pejorative label? Stop sitting on your a*se carping and find something to improve.

This particular initiative will probably get nowhere but just maybe will be part of a bigger build up of pressure to change attitudes and open eyes.

As you mention the HF why not pop into B block on Saturday and see if they want to join your crusade.Maybe encourage one or two to come out of the closet?

As a lesbian myself I get really pissed off at tossers campaigning on behalf of me and actually creating an issue that isn't really there. If you are gay, so what, no different from being straight in terms of how people treat you unless you walk around advertising the fact that your gay. People are different,we have fat, thin, ginger, disabled, beautiful, ugly ect ect, is there going to be campaigns on their behalf?.
As some have said, bringing attention and banging the drum about how unfair life is, will cause resentment.
So please don't campaign on my behalf and don't get offended on my behalf either. I actually found the jokes on here quite funny. Talking of which Nike have just launched their first Lesbian trainers, they have an extra long tongue and you can get them off with one finger.

What part of Lesbia do you come from?

Its funded by a private enterprise associated with the FA, a private enterprise. I guess its their choice, like the whole kick racism out of football etc.

If the state was funding it, then its a different matter.

Have any of these people actually bothered to ask any gay players / ex players? All these "they don't come out because..." assumptions without actually bothering to ask the people who know. Maybe, just maybe, they don't come out over their sexual preferences because it's nobody else's f**king business?

It would look like Britain's only openly gay player gets abused more because of his height than his sexuality - let's start a 'kick heightophobia out of football' campaign

You seem to answer your own question here npn. Apparently they haven't actually bothered to ask the people affected. How do you know this?

a) I didn't say that the HF would support any campaign. I said some people will knock anything and anybody without having the get up and go to instead build something.

b) You seem to think the HF is a unitary body, it ain't. There are plenty of people with plenty of opinions within the HF

c) There will be people posting on this site who are in the HF. Hopefully they at least understand that campaigning makes change, even if this isn't a campaign they care about

Stop knocking people and do some good instead. I am so fed up with all the whingeing, whining negativity from a very small but vocal group on this site.
