FWIW I think it’s a bit of an empty gesture which ran its course a long time ago, but if it keeps annoying people like you lot then I’m all for it According to Southgate every player feels strongly they want to do this. As it is a perfectly laudable message why should they not do so? If they have passion then it is not an empty gesture. I hope they keep it up all the time people racially abuse footballers online

Not sure how anyone can listen to this and still think their argument against it being some sort of BLM political gesture holds any water. You’re using it as cover to be racist pricks lads. [Tweet Link]

Must really pain you to have to watch the Euros with Gareth and a team of English players wearing the shirt and representing the flag for England and they stand for everything you don’t. Beautiful. [Tweet Link] Fair play if they do all want to. I don't think it achieves much, but they're a close knit group with several blacks players (who have been actively and repeatedly racially abused). In that situation I would very likely stick with my countrymen too and give the finger to those who actively abuse and target them. Beyond that it would be nice to see players get more actively involved in changing communities for the better, as the likes of Rashford are doing. I'm sure some do on the quiet anyway, but they have massive financial clout and name recognition so can make a real, rather than a symbolic difference, if they direct their efforts wisely.

Edited by DanH (06 Jun 2021 1.35am) I still have 66. However, if what Southgate says is true then yeah it's a division in perspective that is painful for me as an Englishman. However, it shouldn't really matter whether all the players agreed or disagreed, sport shouldn't be getting involved with months long political messaging. I never looked at sport as overtly political and I regard it as genuinely disappointing that it has taken this path....Most people don't want politics with sport. Edited by Stirlingsays (06 Jun 2021 1.50am) Yeh, apolitical During the Olympics, leaders from the various city-states discussed important political and economic matters. In the ancient world, major leaders rarely met the same place at the same time. As the games approached, everyone generally agreed to an Olympic truce, a time when warfare usually ceased. Athletes and spectators were granted immunity to travel to and from the games.

[Tweet Link] Do you understand how transparent you have become? It is more than an argument against the Marxist, racist, anti law BLM organization. It is about politics in football and the very idea that Black people should have positive discrimination or that they are somehow subject to genuine racism in Britain. If Black organisations were serious about helping Black people they would cooperate with police to catch and imprison Black gangsters and encourage young Black kids to follow the right path instead of blaming everyone else for their problems. When I say everyone else, I mean White people. What does bother me is that a sport I have followed since a child has now been polluted by all this nonsense as a direct result of our insane immigration policy and an elite group of people and their media puppets who cynically peddle and encourage all this crap for their own ends. They just love gullible fools like you. Edited by Hrolf The Ganger (06 Jun 2021 9.14am)
