Why is it referred to as a "peoples' vote"

Wasn't the original referendum a peoples' vote?

Just as stupid as ‘Crashing’ out of the EU without a deal.

Not the same though is it?

Brexit is going to happen, hence there were 500,000 remainers. If Brexit was being cancelled there’d be the same or more.

Ok

I’ll bite

From where does 500,000 come?

It is certainly wrong re the second March, may be correct for the smaller earlier march

I no longer buy into the 'racism' trope in the way it's used because that's validating language that is daily abused and often exaggerated.

Indeed, it's weaponised language that's been used to excuse destroying the lives of people who simply disagree with social constructionists and other fantasists. A group of people who have unknowingly and well meaningfully enabled the damage of generations of lives with unrealistic expectations and advice because of their idealism.

However, I think it's valid to point out where people have very arbitrary ideas on what the term means.....or indeed what types of 'racism' are acceptable and what aren't.

Still, I'm fine with people saying what they think and view that as a far better route for an honest society than the roadway we are currently on.

Only on accuracy.....where I've never disagreed to be fair. I've never had an issue with someone honestly contesting a label I might have used. Indeed, if I'd been inaccurate that's a good thing.

However, some people I find have been disingenuous.....they have moaned and then refused to say how they differed in any meaningful way.

The number is irrelevant. If Brexit was under serious threat, or not happening at all, as in the case of remaining, there’d be the same or more people protesting for Brexit. There’d be streets full of protesters pigeon stepping because there’s so many of them.

If people want to start using the language of the street, then it's going to be responded to in kind. The site would be little else.

Rather than swearing better language could be employed to say much the same thing.....by both sides and any.

Quite. But lets be honest here, UK democracy effectively ended yesterday at 23.00.

I am staying out of this thread BUT this oft repeated claim really does need to be refuted.

UK democracy was reasserted at 23.00 last night. It was the time when the will of our Parliament triumphed over the idea that a referendum result has to be respected in all circumstances. That Parliament promised to respect something and then changed it's mind because of new circumstances is both entirely sensible and certainly democratic. Even some MPs seem not to understand this but it needs to be hammered home. The problem is not the democracy. It's the politics.

For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally.

Wisbech, we could start a whole new Hol section on posts you've started like this.....it's almost as common as your retirements.
