I've hardly ever posted on holmesdale, but this taking the knee nonsense deserves a comment. Quite simply there should be no political statements in football. People don't go to watch football to be lectured and told they have so called white privilege just before every kickoff. Yes racism is bad. No sh!t. But this kneeling thing is a devisive gesture, imported from America and that doesn't tackle racism atall. Good that the fans are booing the knee gesture. They're entitked to voice their disaproval. I would boo the gesture aswell. Politics inevitably creeps into football on occasion for all kinds of reasons. I wasn't against, say, those who wanted to take the knee for one game doing so but don't really see the point of it week in, week out. I'm on the same page as Wilf in that there are plenty of ways to engage with inequalities (whether racial, financial and so on) that actually achieve something, whereas 'taking the knee' in isolation makes no positive difference to anything. Just look at Rashford's efforts towards the disadvantaged. They at least count for 'something'. That take dedication and effort though. Most just opt for the easy option instead as if they're doing something profound in the process.

Booing your own players before they’re about to represent their country is f*cking moronic, yes. But it is the only available way to express your feelings without being banned by the thought police. If you bring politics into sport and then appear to support or at least mimic the gestures of a controversial organization then you can expect a negative reaction There is now more at stake than football and some notion about equality.

If they are anything like the Religious Police, who do instil genuine fear, you definitely don’t want to attract their attention. Please explain their mandate and powers. Also please post a copy of the woke agenda. Is it like Mao’s little red book? Edited by Mapletree (05 Jun 2021 11.39pm)
