This is just a natural progression of the direction academia is taking. Even when I finished my degree, I swear people were competing to see who could be the most stressed at exam time. People used to faint over exams. In my view pathetic - if you faint over an exam there is no way you can face any real world problems.

I beg to differ on their being nothing wrong with equality. Outside of certain legal circumstances it's been nothing but a hatchet tool used against meritocracy.

nothing wrong with equality of opportunity everything wrong with equality of outcome. True....though there will never really be either. Both are slogans.

Access to the top universities should be based upon nothing but innate IQ score. They should then be indoctrinated in nationalism with a small 'n'. As the whole point of these universities is to produce the best minds to improve the fortunes of the country first and humanity second.

Basically social media rules the world. Get something trending on that and the media run with it. Then the government will flip flop and follow any amount of pointless campaigns. How it got this bad, who knows? I'm guessing the future value of tech companies comes into it somewhere.

Yeah, it"s madness, i"m looking for a long shot to be pm one day, and although he"s out of the news lately, i think one David Beckham could get the popular vote, probably after an airing of "at home with the Beckhams" on tv, or David doing a week working in the nhs, nice little series, then standing for pm, maybe after a stint at London mayor, anything is possible now!

I'm totally against quotas or positive discrimination and am, in fact, a huge advocate for meritocracy. However, I think you would agree, for example, that a man or woman should get the same pay for the same job? Or that a black, Asian, White or a person with a disability should be able to get a job and earn equally?

Still, the sudden change in governmental policy does kind of make you think if anyone in there really knows what they are doing. Wouldn't the education secretary know why they didn't have that policy in the first place?
