That being me, in case you have forgotten.

Does anyone have a date when the ignore button will become functional? thanks
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

However, it may be that other posters quote previous posts in their replies, so you still get to see posts you have ignored. (at least, that's how it works on the BBS). From my own perspective, anyone visiting Israel in the last year has contributed (financially and morally) to Israel's genocide of Palestine. A bit like buying South African goods during Apartheid, but on a grander scale. I see more teenagers have been jailed this week in a clampdown on right-wing extremism. Absolutely laughable, if it wasn't destroying youngsters lives, some for just posting bollix on the internet. (and who on HOL hasn't done that ? )
I disengage, I turn the page. |

If Britain was burning around our ears we would certainly think there is a problem. Probably many problems. It isn’t though. It is largely peaceful and harmonious almost everywhere. The only burning seen recently has been during the rioting, and we all know who caused that problem. My majority saw the light a long time ago when they rejected hard right politics in favour of a liberal, progressive society based on the rule of law and social democracy. That a % still cling to the outdated ideas of the past is inevitable. It’s nothing new. London is lawless.

I disagree with you on things but `i would defend your right to have your opinions without risking arrest. I also agree the actions of the police under the last govt were enabled by a lack of control , lesbian nan etc.

Absolutely laughable, if it wasn't destroying youngsters lives, some for just posting bollix on the internet. (and who on HOL hasn't done that ? ) I visited Israel in September last year before Hamas committed their atrocities and Israel responded. On my return I expressed my concerns over Netanyahu here, the way he had to rely on the hard right settlers to stay in power, the attempt at controlling the Supreme Court and the protests against him. Youngsters posting on the internet in ways that could incite others to commit murder isn’t bollix! It’s illegal. Examples need to be made, that whilst holding opinions are perfectly ok, how they are expressed can have consequences. Big Brother wanted to control how people thought. This is only about how people act. I look forward to an ignore button being available. I will use it myself for a couple of those who never post anything other than personal insults. That others may choose not to read my contributions is fine too. That’s nothing new. You only need to do what I do, exercise self control and skip anything you don’t want to read. It won’t stop me responding, should I choose to. Those that matter, the casual visitors and the lurkers, will still be able to read everything they want to and realise that not everyone who posts here holds extreme views. It will mean the self righteous echo chamber here that screams about others restricting their freedom to speak has just again confirmed that they don’t actually believe in free speech, unless only they get heard. Their echoes will get louder, the prejudices stronger and their separation wider. I have been frequently told to go and use the BBS if I don’t like the views here. Why though do that? I have no wish to occupy a space in which my own views are simply confirmed. You learn nothing that way. Using an echo chamber is intellectually lazy. As is trawling the internet to find only sources that agree with you. I predict that after an ignore button is introduced this section will slowly wither and die. Having conversations with clones will eventually become so boring that even the most convinced of their self righteousness will look for new challenges.

Being on holiday somewhere for a week is a different experience to living there for years; the difference between stubbing your toe and breaking your leg. I don’t though ignore it! That’s a misrepresentation. My comments rarely, if ever, are specifically about any area itself, precisely for the reason you give. I offer another perspective. Looked at from a wider angle, from a distance and without the emotional baggage that can distort objectivity. It’s the old problem that if you stand too close to a wall you only see one brick, whilst those standing further away can see much more. Knowing how best to solve these problems won’t be done by those most impacted by them. They will, very understandably, have their personal agendas. No area, town, city, region, country or continent exists in isolation. Everything is inextricably linked to everything else to some degree.
