Good God, man, you do realise that Cucking is on this thread?? In all seriousness, if I'm not missing an old ladies joke (there's every chance), I'm genuinely looking at all opportunities available that will allow me to keep afloat, so would be deeply appreciative of any offer to consider. (We're not completely dead just yet, but pretty much, and I can leave the trickle to be managed by others in the interim, if I do need to find consistent alternative income.) Should I message you? See? Maple's alright. Not had a single (non-sexual) offer from Stirling! Good point re Cucking, thoughtless of me Yup, pm me

Or we could just try funding the NHS properly.

Though to be honest, I'm with those who think we need to live with this within the best safety measures we can take. We are committing war time spending for a virus when our debt levels were huge anyway....I'm not sure how that works. How is this going to work out long time for the working man and women's mortgages and jobs? I have my fingers crossed. Perhaps we can quantitatively-ease our way out of this? I don't know....but countries in the Euro like Spain and Italy are in a very different situation. The control of their money supply is in the hands of the European Central Bank.....No doubt they will 'ease' as well but we are going to see how that goes.
Essentially we’re in for another 10 years of austerity after this. Minimum. However as some like to think ‘this is the beginning of the end’ good luck with that. The system will survive at the expense of the commoner just like it always has for centuries. Millennia. Anyway - onto the how is it going to affect the working man - one really interesting development coming out of this (and I do return to this often but only because it’s just around the corner and alarming how little people are aware of the scope creep even today) companies are now front loading investment in automation and AI that they were previously punting further down the road. Debt and austerity should be the least of people’s concerns - if you have young kids you need to think hard about the path they will need to take to go with rather than against the grain of work over the next 40 years. It ain’t going to be accounting that’s for sure. It’s not just the working man that’s in the firing line - the public school default job of choice will be no longer in the not very distant future. I should know. I’m working on the products that will create those job losses this very minute. Finally the mass social and behavioural changes that will come out of this and last long after we ‘return to normal’ are going to be fascinating to observe. For example - how long will it take for people to not react immediately to a cough or sneeze with paranoia and or stigma. Or at best make a joke every time someone is ill? I loved my time with Palace. Home and away. Just not sure what the future holds now. I mean I just can’t see crowds being something of the future. TV. Empty stadiums or vastly reduced crowds. Whatever I think big changes are next.

We also need to recognise the value of people ... particularly, all our lower paid citizens who are working hard to keep the nation going. Twelve years ago, we (the taxpayer) bailed out the Banks to the tune of tens of billions to keep them from going under. It would be nice to see some combined response from them to help out in this crisis. Payment holidays are only 3 deferred payments plus interest. It would be wonderful to see more self suffiency and local initiatives to provide jobs here and to reduce our carbon footprint. Great Britain will always be Great Britain because it refers to a land mass ... but I understand what you mean. Edited by Henry of Peckham (03 Apr 2020 1.31am)

Edited by SW19 CPFC (03 Apr 2020 12.37am) A dive back into austerity is bound to be the response after these war time spending levels. I still have trouble accepting this pathway but hey tough t1tty I suppose, that's what has happened. I don't think enough of the public at large really comprehend how much is being spent, they just hear, 'stay in to save lives', they aren't being told they are going to pay for it. Do you really see the public at large accepting another non ending clamp down on spending?..... Surely they will vote in a much higher spending Labour party at the next election......What will that look like. Perhaps the future for the UK is to be an economic Italy. It's all rather depressing. In terms to changes to social dynamics. I think you will see faster and more extensive balkanization by the wealthier and the country becoming more and more regionised between city and rural. In terms of social practicals, it will probably differ by group. I certainly feel that the government should adopt Japanese like hygiene requirements for work and business establishments. So instead of just seeing hand sanitizer at the hospital you see it everywhere and hand shaking with some will go bye bye.

I hear what you say about 100 year pandemics but Government departments meet every year to discuss and review plans in the event of various catastrophes. Whilst one cannot plan for a vaccine in advance one could certainly ensure that the front line NHS staff had sufficient protective clothing so that every time they tried to cure a patient they weren't put at risk themselves
