That doesn't answer why some people would want to suggest one possibility over another.

Why indeed?

It seems to me that some have already made up their minds based on what they want to be true, rather than what objectively could be.

So another case of the famous truth economy.

Perhaps. Sometimes political judgements dictate that not everything that is known can be shared with everyone. It’s ever been thus. Nothing new involved at all.

Still doesn't answer why they want it to be true.

Do we all have nothing better to be doing on a Friday night than going around in circles in a pointless debate.

Can we not just agree to disagree and respect each other's opinions?

Objectively all that matters is what is true.

The people who have died are owned the truth.

On any other level it doesn't really matter whether it came from the lab or the wet markets, whether powerful people are to blame or are blameless as those people are dead regardless.

However, lies and cover ups and general mendaciousness should never be accepted as pieces the powerful and their supporters can play. It should always be fought wherever it is found.

Shrugging the shoulders isn't good enough.

Nothing new about those in authority lying through their teeth and then claiming it was all for the common good when they get found out. No, nothing new in that.

I guess you will need to reach your own conclusion on that. I have, but I don’t expect to agree and I am sure that they wouldn’t.

We can certainly agree to disagree. Respecting any opinion based on misinformation is not going to happen.

Unrelated and a very cynical distortion of what is usual.

Why so many are so untrusting of the people they help elect yet resist a root and branch overhaul always puzzles me.

My conclusion is that some people want to think the pandemic was created by accident and so could potentially be avoided in the future rather than a random occurrence which could happen again tomorrow.
