Can't see him strolling straight back into the first 11. What I like about Ayew's 2 goals is he is in the right place at the right time. With Wickham as the big powerful centre forward as another option Benteke will have to work extra hard in training and wait his chance.

If he does feature, I'll certainly be interested to see whether an unfit Benteke who has not played for a while is less mobile (although that may constitute standing perfectly still) then the previous 18 months or whether he may actually come back with some renewed desire and vigour. I do however feel that whilst I pray for some optimism, Benteke is no longer an asset and a shadow of his former self. We desperately need someone to make an impact in front of goal.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

What I like about them is that they do what no other striker seems to have done for us for ages - direct the ball not only on target but also where the keeper isn't. Soerloth's unerring ability to hit it straight at him drove me round the twist. Of course against T***FFS one of our most prolific scorers in recent years has been Troy Deeney's arse.

Must say I haven't any big hope that CB will go on a scoring spree. And Roy should keep Ayew in starting line-up with Connor W as the obvious sub!

The great hope I have is that he's had a minor knee niggle for ages that this operation finally fixed. And we'll now get the Aston Villa Benteke. Don't forget he was almost at 1 in 2 for a while for us...until he wasn't. My personal view is that I'd rather we signed nobody than someone for the sake of it.
If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities. |

Once fit Bentenke is still our best striker in my view. His aerial ability means he wins 70/80% of aerial duels and despite a lack of goals he was actually key in the build up to many of the goals we did score. He also adds a presence for set-pieces that can cause chaos. I don't think it is a coincidence that we've struggled to score from set-pieces without him in the box. He tailed off at the end of the season in terms of overall performance but now it seems that was probably due to injury. If he has restored his confidence then I can see him banging in a few in the run in and it also gives us a presence to aim for. If we don't bring anyone in and Tekkers, Wickham and Ayew stay fit then at the very least there'll be competition up front for the first time in about 2 years.

That was a very iilluminating video showing just how hard CB has worked to get fit and also some interesting footage of how sophisticated injury recovery is these days. What it didn't do, however, is offer any insight into last season and if CB was playing with the same knee injury which might well explain his disappointing form and goals tally. However, it's great see him back fit, motivated and ready to play. I'm hoping we get back the 17 goals in his first season Christian Benteke not last season's pale imitation. Whether he starts tomorrow or comes on as as a sub, wouldn't it be fantastic if he scored the winning goal.

On this basis we should get about 20 goals out of him come May!!

The variety of exercises were interesting to see. Welcome back, Christian. We now hope for success for him and us. All the hard work in recovery can be worthwhile.
