I'd like him to score the 12-15 goals that you mention, but with new players coming in and his fondness for the Physio table , I'd be surprised if he gets that many starts. So you must never ever compare any players as they are all slightly different. According to this Palace will meet asking price

I suppose we could look at it as if Benteke is on holiday at the moment why rush the transfer through and pay his wages while he sits on the beach? If we had signed him 3 weeks ago by now we'd have paid him the best part of 500k and he wouldn't have even pulled on a training bib so if he's due back in the next week or so now might be the time we sign him up!

Absolutely....I think this is bang on....SP isnt stupid, why pay half a million quid to someone sat on a beach when you can make Liverpool pay it.

He's not on holiday, he's joined Liverpool's US tour:

As has been said before, Benteke is Liverpool's player and they can ask what they want for him but Klopp doesn't want him and surely the player doesn't want a sore arse sitting on the bench. Personally I think what we're rumoured to have offered is enough but it is what it is. Unusually we've already done some really good business but every Palace fan knows how badly we need a proven PL striker and he is definitely that and suits the way we play. Imagine Bolasie Zaha Townsend Puncheon coming at you and Benteke too - that's a lot of brown trouser moments for any defence. For that reason I think we should give Liverpool what they want if we can afford it. If he comes we'll get our money back with our league position imo. All that said, we have the best owners in the country and have faith that they will do their best for the club even if this deal comes to nothing - they are Palace fans too at the end of the day.

Good, a few days of Klopp blanking him will only strengthen his desire to leave!

Great post, totally agree. Also, at the beginning of the window it did seem that LP were being totally unreasonable in demanding such a huge fee for a player who had 'gone off the boil' so to speak. However, the last few weeks have shown that the whole PL transfer market has gone crazy with prices, especially for strikers, spiralling out of control. Eg how can a striker like Berahino, near the end of his contract, suddenly be worth £25m? So maybe what seemed unreasonable a month ago now seems par for the course?

On tour but arguably as Pool's 5th choice striker? Time to move on, abf for Palace to meet the asking price

I'm not so sure as he could be loafing around receiving his rumoured £140,000 per week wages for the next three or four years without having to break a sweat. I would be quite happy to receive £21.5m over the next three years for just polishing a bench with my bum
