Self employed won't know what they are entitled to (if anything) until they are notified by HMRC in June. One thinks gof how Govt has been an active cheerleader for the self-employed / freelancers/ gig economy for some time and now this area of employment has a very real emergency on its hands. Many in education are self-employed e.g. supply teachers; sport coaches; other peripatetic services e.g. science & the arts etc It was only a couple of years ago that I got my proper contract - after 8 years of the job and 4 years of a Labour Court case. I hope you have yours, but I honestly never knew many were self-employed in education.

Guys, can we please stop the sniping towards each other. If a post upsets you, take a few deep breaths and scroll to the next one. Please get back to discussing the topic which is the coronavirus. Otherwise I'm quite happy to dish out some yellow cards.

I feel compelled to side with ME in this matter. To quote a previous moderator, this is a website, not a democracy. As Mr Plimsoll put so eloquently, other people are put off by the domination of threads by the same people. We've lost so many good posters over the years because of this. Moderators are volunteers, giving their time freely and I remember getting seriously pissed off when, after making a modding call, some people just would not let it drop. Arguing the toss is 1. futile and 2. annoying to other posters. To call this an attack on free speech is, as Willo would call it, completely risible. I respect WE's and Mapletree's opinions as I respect Stirling's and Hrolf's (even on the frequent occasions I disagree). What I don't respect is the constant whining when the umpire makes a call. It's dull, it's boring and it keeps happening. ME will know that he and I are more often on different pages than the same but I feel he deserves credit for the restraint he shows. Moderating a site with so many egos ain't easy and the offer remains - if you think you can set up a Palace website and forum, get on with it. Don't destroy the HOL with petty sh*t like this.

Speaking of back to topic.... I would like to hear some more Coronavirus conspiracy theories, apparently there are a lot out there! Both serious thoughts and anything purely entertainment welcome of course! Some examples include: It's biological warfare from China, mostly aimed at the Americans and their crap healthcare system; It's an attempt at Biological warfare from China which hasn't quite gone to plan; China is using the virus to halt the spread of protests which started in HK; It's a form of population control; It's been designed to bring Football Forums into chaos as it captures the entire social/economic/political climate and therefore a single thread to force those with hard line leftist beliefs clash with those more inclined to the right; It's an 'anti-human' virus Mother nature is producing to cull us; Or my personal favourite, which not on any academic level but I like to entertain at least, it is another small step towards the Orwellian nightmare we are heading for as they are testing and normalising restriction and freedom of movement on the popultaion. Interested to hear any other thoughts!
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Has anyone here that is working had a 'shielding' letter? You can PM if you like. I have staff who clearly should have one but it has not been received. That's important as those people can be treated as furloughed, even though it doesn't really fit with the definition. Albeit the Government seems nowhere near providing detail on the scheme at this point.

Well said Granddad. Myself and ME more often than not disagree but I think he's handled himself extremely well over the last few weeks. This is a stressful, strange, unique time for literally all of us (except Cucking, a veteran of the Black Plague and the Spanish Flu) and it is understandable that people's patience is wearing thin - but to repeat an old point, there are much bigger things going on right now than to worry about arguing with a stranger on the internet. We have lost so so many good posters over the years who have quite liderally (little nod to one of the best there) been bored into submission due to thread domination, repetition, and divergence back to the same old boring themes.

And yet you are one of the most antagonistic posters who also happens to contribute next to nothing in the way of debate. I will say this. I have never had a problem with Midland at all and I am totally in favour of moderators doing the difficult and voluntary job they do without being abused or nitpicked. As for Wisbech Eagle. He is entitled to his opinions but when one poster begins to dominate threads with incessant lengthy replies, refusing to be contradicted, then this becomes extremely tedious. Back to the topic...
