I am not going to get all dewy-eyed or rose tinted, but surely we can all see that things are going in the right direction? Gayle wasn't going to fire us into the top half of the table - I loved the bloke, but he lacked the quality in front of goal. Berahino has the quality infront of goal, but seems a bit highly strung and Benteke is proven to improve a team that is not all that great (i.e. Villa). Either would be brilliant, but if we don't get them, then we are hardly going to go too far into the season with two strikers. You missed Ameobi from that list of illustrious strikers

I kinda hope we string Liverpool along that we're still interested right up to deadline day and then sign someone else and tell them to f**k off.

I don't want to mention relegation, however I feel this has gone on too long not just in this window but last couple of years, where we copped out on a striker with bambi on ice. In Jan, we knew we need a striker and brought an half asked and not match fit adebayor. I agree that we did really poorly in the January window. I thought that we were complacent, went for targets that were out of our reach and ended up desperately gambling on Adebayor. However, it was not just our front line that failed last year. How many points did Hennessey and McCarthy let slip through their fingers (Manchester City, Villa and Liverpool without even trying too hard). I was relieved that we signed Mandanda. However, CPFC seem to learn from their mistakes. Townsend is going to be a great signing and we are getting knocked back on Benteke and Berahino sufficiently early to have a Plan B. If not for West Brom (didn't Wickham score twice against them in February?) then soon after. Edited by dp (25 Jul 2016 5.17pm)

This may be a bit leftfield, however I am of the opinion that if Wickham gets a run of games, stays clear of those niggling injuries, he will be an unstoppable force. I actually think he could end up being better than Harry "s***e for my country" Kane, if and I know it's a big if, he stays injury free. The lad has pace, is great in the air and we have all seen what he can do with a run of games. Not really sure we need Benteke for that money I think someone to play off Wickham like Berahinio would be better, but what with Pulis and Parish not exactly being best buddies I can't see that happening can you ? I hope you are joking Danny. If Wickham plays for the next 10 seasons and add the goals together he would struggle to score as many goals as Kane last year.

Give him a few more years to hit a prime striker's age, he should improve. I am not suggesting he should be our 1st choice striker. But he has shown glimpses to be a second choice. Don't be so shorted sighted like you were probably in Murray's first season.

Because I changed my posts per topic settings to 50 on a page, this thread is only 37 pages long. No biggy.

Don't remember that. I hope Wickham does, but he has never , ever, even in glimpses, ever , ever shown himself to be on the level anywhere near Harry Kane.
