Have you ever considered for a start that much of the press media is operated by Tory press barons with a distinctive Conservative Party slant over the other political parties? It is a fact that voting behaviour is influenced firstly by family tradition and then by press influence.

Secondly, The Conservatives are likewise non-existent within Scotland with the same number of seats as Labour. = 1 each

Labour is also ahead in various polls whilst The Conservatives are ahead in others - it all depends what you CHOOSE to read and report upon

Finally, let's just see how Labour fairs within forthcoming Mayoral & Council Elections. (Oh, I should add that Labour is ahead in Mayoral Poll)

Who just reads press media nowadays? People are less influence by media barons than in living memory.

The tories have been non-existent in Scotland for two decades, Labour have gone from dominant to non-existent overnight - and they heavily relied on Scotland to prop them up.

Polls are fairly pointless, until the general election.

The locals and mayoral elections don't ever mean much in the grand scheme of it.

The point I was making and it has gone right over your head is that despite all the Tory gaffes Labour are not gaining much ground. At this stage they should be miles ahead.

Scotland isn't the Tory heartland... the fact that it is 1-1 on MP's is to Labour's disgrace!

I'm waiting for the May elections with baited breath as it happens..... I doubt that you will make any gains in Scotland at all and south of the border you might find a UKIP resurgence again.

I doubt that the results will show much support for Labour at all, but I'm open minded as it is early on in the life cycle of this government and history shows a swing to the opposition due to low turnouts and protest voting.

Labour are in third place in Scottish polls (reported in a 'neo liberal' periodical):

And here we are almost a year on and Corbyn is well and truley comfortable in the Labour leadership seat, and his impact is zero, apart from an anti semtism row that has engulfed the fully discredited Labour party. And they have the bollox to call other people racist when they question mass and uncontrolled immigration and Islamic extremism.

No real surprise- people are fed up of mainstream politics and political parties, hence the SNP, Green and UKIP surge at the last general election.

I reckon it will be the lesser parties who make the gains again- Labour and Tories will both lose plenty of seats, probably to Greens, UKIP, SNP et al.

I wonder whether we might see some moderate gains for the Lib Dems in these local elections- after their virtual extermination nationally, will they now once again be seen as the party of outsiders, worth a protest vote?

I agree Leif.... except that SNP are a big player in Scotland now.

I can see UKIP and Greens picking up seats, but not control of councils. They may make enough gains for councils to be "hung", ie no overall control.

Still think it's too soon for the LibDems as people haven't forgotten their broken promises and Clegg's sucking up to anyone for a bit of power himself. The new leader is uninspiring too... don't even know his name?

Shall we have a protest outside his office? However instead of it comprising of a bunch of 'virtue signallers' being self righteous, we should take M&S hampers, wear sports jackets and bring a few nice bottles of Burgundy.

A posh protest would be hilarious. Where is it?

I think you're probably right- I don't think the minor parties will gain enough seats to gain councils, but may well gain enough to see some councils slipping to NOC.

The Lib Dems have stayed under the radar (probably sensibly...)- hard to see how they will recover. Probably a bit too early for them- their strength under Charles Kennedy was a clever bit of positioning- being seen as further left than New Labour, but still central enough to pick up moderate Tory voters too. Now, Greens, SNP and Labour have firmly staked out the left, and the current Tory government is (relatively) hard right, as are UKIP.

If the Lib Dems are clever, they'll firmly stake out a plot in the centre ground. They might in fact be doing this but they are seen as such an irrelevance you wouldn't hear about it!
