If I was to hazard a guess, I would say that the comments on this thread that simply ape the press releases of the IDF are, at least partly, informed by their domestic prejudices. That is, their personal prejudice against British Asians and especially Muslims.

I am not going to make any comment on that as there are racist thoughts both ways - a great deal more from Asians to whites, I suspect - and not every comment from the mouth of the arch right is wrong. The fear of culture submission is not wholly groundless.

That said, a lot of British Muslims protest against Israel sets them as Palestine/Hamas; whereas our friends on here largely identify with the more European Israeli.

Thus, they go into the sort of semantic contortions to defend Israel and attack any criticism of the campaign as antisemitic or an apology for terrorists, even though it is plain to see for a blind man that the actions are indefensible and morally abhorrent.

Israel did have the right to defend itself, but we have passed the point where there is any meaningful "defence". Two men rob your house and rape your wife. You track them down and kill them, people have sympathy. You kill their parents for giving birth to them... hang on. You then kill their kids as offspring of evil, no way. Applying this analogy, Israel have reached the point where they are killing the poor bloke who did their dry cleaning.

It is sad that this should be so as the massacre of children is the massacre of children no matter how you write it. It is not something that is somehow acceptable due to the unspeakable actions of a minority of its adult population.

I'm not approving of any of it. Wars are awful events, but in most cases you have to choose a side that it is in your interests for them to win.

In Syria, Assad is reckoned to have killed 600,000 Arab Muslims - about ten times the numbers killed in the Israel-Arab conflicts since 1947. In Yemen there are estimates of 337,000 killed, yet the demonstrators in London chant support for the Houthis - as well as, of course, chanting that Jews are Nazis. It's pretty clear who are more Nazi-like.
