Just that there is a £4 billion prison expansion programme in place. So we need an interim solution. Ensure prisoner numbers are set against prisoner spaces. Open more prisons, numbers can rise.

My broader point is that this is clearly an inherited problem, which needs an immediate solution - if we're going to criticise a brand-new government for it, we need to at least know what we are suggesting they should be doing...
I hear they have a couple hundred extra spaces in Rwanda.

Milliband has halted all new oil drilling in the North Sea and coal mining. A green policy? Can anyone make a good argument for this?

Where did you see that? The BBC link says exemptions for sexual and seriously violent offenders, certainly hope rapists are included in that. It's all over the place. However, when I investigated further, in all fairness to Labour, around half have already been released under the Tories. Mostly very quietly - although a couple couldn't resist reoffending soon after. So I can hardly blame Labour - although it is my belief that Starmer was complicit in ignoring the issue.

Even if they are, since time immemorial governments have claimed credit for work done by previous governments. I don't recall you complaining when say Trump did just that. Is who claiming credit? Where did I say anyone was claiming credit? Starmer and Reeves say at every opportunity that they are aiming to grow the economy, so if it does indeed grow and they then claim credit for it, presumably you will then be quick to point out that actually the achievement of growth is out of their hands will you? And I don't give a s*** about the USA or Donald Trump so why on Earth would I complain on HOL about anything whatsoever that happened there or that he did or didn't do? Not everyone is as obsessed by Donald Trump as you clearly are. Edited by YT (11 Jul 2024 4.58pm)

We will now have to rely on more imports from countries with lower environmental standards than our own. This policy actually ADDS to the problem (if you believe one exists in the first place).

If they are legal they gave undertakings about their past, and their attitudes, which if found to be lies would enable their visa to be withdrawn and for them to be removed. Actually removing them though is not as straightforward as enabling us to do it.
