The fact is that violent crime relative to population rose sharply from the end of the 1950s. And no, it's not because the population grew. There used to be a lot of data online that showed this, but oddly, it seems to be harder to find now. I wonder why? You don't need graphs. You only need to have been alive long enough to see what has happened to this country. Edited by Hrolf The Ganger (05 Apr 2024 5.56pm) There’s no need to trade graphs. They all tell the same story to those with the ability to leave their prejudices behind, The fact is that violent crime has not grown because of immigration. Inventing conspiracy theories that the data is being suppressed in some way won’t change that fact. Thinking you know better, despite the facts, is just confirmation of prejudice.

You have presented nothing that contradicts what I said. As usual, you prefer to accuse people of prejudice instead of opening your eyes. Only someone who has been living on The Moon would not be aware of the epidemic of knife crime, shop lifting and general gang culture that now exists in this country. Perhaps you don't need to live on The Moon. Maybe Cornwall is far enough away from reality.

Also, have just been reading about how Sweden has gone from the bottom of Europe's gun-crime league tables to the top for similar reasons.

Wisbech might like to read the first section of this BBC learning site. I'd forgotten that this thread was actually about sportswear. I'll leave it there.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

Perhaps you don't need to live on The Moon. Maybe Cornwall is far enough away from reality. I’ll ignore the personal comments. Of course I am aware of knife crime, shop lifting and gang culture. Whether it’s correct to describe it as an epidemic is a matter of opinion. There was plenty of shop lifting and gang culture in my youth. Knife crime not so much, even though flick knives were the preferred threat of many. That’s not the point. It’s blaming immigration for it that is, and the evidence does not support the assertions no matter how much you try to avoid that fact. So what causes these assertions to continue to be believed, despite them being myths? If not prejudice what else explains it?

Wisbech might like to read the first section of this BBC learning site. I'd forgotten that this thread was actually about sportswear. I'll leave it there. The BBC link provided is factual. Violent crime has increased since 1955 faster than the growth in the population. That though does not mean that the reason for that is immigration. Indeed there is no actual evidence to support the idea. It’s an assumption based on no evidence at all. There can be many social and societal causes. When an immigrant achieves citizenship they are no longer an immigrant. Children born here of immigrants are British. Changing demographics bring challenges. Of that there is no doubt, but they must be faced and dealt with. You cannot turn back time. The real question of immigration is a current one. Not a historical one. Do we need more people to help staff certain sectors? Can we survive without them? If we can encourage the feckless back to work by reducing benefits and raising wages what impact would that have and would we be prepared to pay for it? Most importantly, is there any evidence that today’s immigrants are going to increase the crime rates? The answer to that is emphatically no!

Joanna Lumley, Cliff Richard and George Orwell were all born in India, does that mean they are Indians?

It is evidence! Of what though? It’s known that criminal gangs exist. The Krays were British. That doesn’t mean all criminal gangs are British anymore than all criminal gangs are Albanian. It’s extrapolating one fact and building a false picture from it. Which is unrelated to designing merchandise for the Olympics.
