We did more than enough to win at a canter. First time shots from Michell and ayew could have done the job. Mateta though 1 on 1, Eze's shot, Edouads shot I could go on. It was just another "one of those games"

Mitchell is going to need time if he is going to adjust to his new role. Yesterday, his ball control, positional sense and correction were notably lacking on various occasions. There were however glimpses that he may make it with coaching assistance.

Andros was allowed to use his left foot which we know is good, Glasner is right, Mitchell should have shown him outside, if he passed back to the full back unlikely such as good cross would have come in. It's a lesson, Should have, could have didn't
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

Every Palace fan knows Andros can’t go past anyone that can move faster than snail pace and his one party piece is to cut inside and whip the ball in whether that be a shot or cross. If we all know that then you are pretty certain the players know it, so the one thing you do in the last 15 of the match particularly is stop him cutting inside. It was a poor goal to give away, The game should have been put to bed though a long time before the equaliser so we only have our lack of ruthless finishing to blame for the draw. On the positive side we bossed the match for large periods and our overall play looks considerably better than a month ago.

How annoying that was I see differences in play, having Munoz allows 3 at the back, we have a higher press (not that pressing was ever much of a thing under Hodgson), far less across the park looking for an opening but the main issue is still there, it falls apart when the subs come on. I'm pretty sure Hughes was a good attacking midfielder at Watford with Viera changing him to CM/DM to suit his needs, I don't think he's that effective in that position, that for sure needs a rethink. I'd also put him on the powder for strength I'd like to see Ozoh at the end of the games he appears to have the strength for that role and certainly the energy Glasner reads all my posts so that will happen at the next game

It's a lesson, Should have, could have didn't Glasner didn’t specify which player or players were at fault for not pressing. Mitchell made a choice to go with the full back. With hindsight that may have been the wrong decision especially given Eze’s feeble attempt to block the cross. If Mitchell opts to attack the ball and let the full back go then he has to assume the left sided central defender is going to come out to cover the overlap. If he goes with the full back he has to assume Eze is going to attack Townsend. He was probably on a loser whichever decision he made. It does illustrate how exposed Mitchell is on that left hand side compared with Munoz who has Ayew providing cover.

I recall that in his early days in the first team, if going forward, he would always look to find Wilf ( probably on Zaha's instructions) and looked very ill at ease once over the half-way line. His forward game has actually improved and he can make some very incisive passes. He needs to bring a bit more consistency to his game, and as you suggest, self-belief may be an issue.

Eze should have closed him down and half turned his back His attempts at closing down or tackling are always half hearted. It will be interesting to see what Glasner expects and demands of him. Personally I think Eze is a player who although blessed with great skill, unfortunately has had a string of injury setbacks from which he takes a while to get back to full speed, therefore we get to see his true potential and ability only in a limited number of games.

In the press conference Glasner said we didn't put enough pressure on Townsend when he received the ball, specifically referring to our players becoming sidetracked by the full back overlapping outside Townsend. The lack of challenge enabled Townsend to cut inside (as we know he does) and pick his cross by which time Luton had a number of runners ready to attack the delivered ball in the box. It may seem to you that OG had Mitchell in mind but not to me. There were two Luton attackers threatening down the RH side with two Palace Players, TM and Ebs in attendance. What ensued was a situation we've seen countless times in matches and if we have, then TM and Ebs have too: The winger overlaps in order to draw the LB out wide, leaving space for Andros. The full back must go with the winger, and he assumes that the other defender, Ebs, will then take Andros: it's simple. What followed was a clear case, imo, of Ebs not doing his defensive duty. Instead of seeing the wide player and anticipating that he will need to close Andros down, he remains where he is. By the time Andros receives the ball, he has all the time in the world to decide what he wants to do and we all know what that is going to be: get the ball on his left and cross into the area. Ebs not only didn't respond quickly enough and close him down but, when Andros did make the cross, he made that silly, half-hearted attempt to block the cross by doing that sort of balletic, one leg in the air while I turn my back job: defensively non-existent. In short, there were two attackers vs two defenders and it should have been dealt with if both had done their job. Mitchell did, Ebs didn't. Can you imagine the cartloads of crap Tyrick would've taken on here if he'd let the attacker go without tracking him? I love Ebs but in the modern game, when we defend, we all should be doing the job to defend in all areas of the pitch until we regain possession. All the best teams do it and managers expect it, or else they find someone who will. As has been said, if Pep saw one of his hugely talented players not carrying out their responsibilities, he'd drop them for someone who does. We don't have that luxury, sure, but that doesn't mean Ebs is immune to his duties, does it? Just my opinion, the way I saw it, PA. Edited by Glazier#1 (10 Mar 2024 10.42am)
