We had ample opportunity to "utilise the loan market" in summer.

We made a huge mistake in the summer with Franca. I thought he would play after a few games settling in but the way Roy is talking this lad is nowhere near ready for the first team.

I am all in favour of buying for the future but why did we not buy or loan a player for this season until Franca is ready?

One more point

That too.

Perhaps it was held back for January with the very looming prospect of this season going wrong and the lack of any intent to spend money otherwise? Conspiracy or very real possibility?

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Players who know they won't be dropped, players who are not good enough and even worse, players who looked like they didn't even wanna be there. We've got Liverpool to look forward to now with probably Clyne and ward as our full backs. I don't even blame Roy, he was only appointed as he was an easy option to try and cover the cracks, we all knew a couple of injuries would see the wall start falling down. We chose not to address it in the summer, if its not addressed in January we only have ourselves to blame.

I can’t agree. Roy picks the team and tactics, then supposedly motivates the players. Apart from Ayew and Lerma last night the rest were a disgrace, no effort or passion, that is down to the coaches, it doesn’t matter what players you have.
Blaming fans for complaining is signs of a desperate man.

Bournemouth were last season arguably one of the worst teams in the division. Gary O'Neill performed a minor miracle keeping them up. To try and prevent this happening again they have spent 137m Euros on new players according to Transfermarkt, and that excludes the fees for loan deals. In comparison we have spent 38m Euros, and the only one of those arrivals that is a regular is the free transfer Lerma.
Its an arms race every year to get new talent, and our transfer activity this summer was really poor, with money spent where it was not needed. In my view it is a combination of the injuries to key players and the lack of overall quality in the squad that is the real problem and we are now being found out big time.
Sacking Hodgson won't resolve this, unless we do what we have done in several previous years by taking on a new manager and spend panic money in January.
There is no doubt however that we are in trouble. Luton are beginning to show a bit of form and and Everton will easily overcome their 10 point deduction.

I do think this a good point, they have spent relatively big this year and last year (but havent spent much before, and sold all their good players).

Going to Palace now is just not enjoyable. Every game the tactics are the same, the free kicks are the same, the corners are the same and at throw ons nobody wants the ball. No invention, unable to pass the ball through midfield to attack. We have 4 England internationals when Eze is playing, a Danish, Columbian, 2 Ghanaians, American, and a French under21. If you can't get these players firing on all cylinders then there is a problem with the coaching. We rarely gain a foothold in a game and seem to be on the back foot from the start. Why we didn't get Ross Barkley on a free, the mind boggles. The sort of player we need to control the centre of the park.

Roy can't get them firing on any cylinders let alone all of them.

That's the worst part of it all. Having to gear yourself up to go in the cold to watch that dross. Looks like pretty heavy rain on Sat....

Currently, the Liverpool game has thrashing written all over it. I'm bringing my son. If we're crap and weak, I'm not sure I'll be paying hundreds to go over again this season. Losing without laying a glove on the opposition is not entertaining.
I can't believe Roy has had a go at the fans. We have created one of the best atmospheres in the league - but there is a limit. It looks like we've reached that limit, in more ways than one.

Glad I didn't go last night and elected to take the pain from the comfort of my armchair.

Roy obviously has to bear responsibility for recent results and performances and his comments were unwise about the fans although perhaps a reaction to having a bottle thrown at him.

How many of Ward, Schlupp, Ayew and Mitchell and even Edouard get a start in another Premier League side though ? I'm not so sure and wonder how anybody extracts an energetic performance from them or most of the subs.

With regard to the change of manager I think one will be needed just to try to change things up but the strained relationships at Board level, poor squad, transfer "strategy" and previous protracted / messy / muddled appointments and departures will put many off IMO. I think SP will be seen by many as difficult to work with.

The performance was abysmal, and the buck stops with the manager, but the throwing of bottle at a 76 year old is down there with the lowest points in my time.
