But you do appreciate that our transfer budget for this season is dictated by what we spent last season and the one before? Jeez, read the post!!! I’ve questioned why we’ve spent £40m on a goal keeper and an unproven kid but can’t fix issues we’ve had for years.

He's not wrong tho is he. West ham won a European competition last season. Brighton, villa, Leicester, Southampton, Swansea, Fulham, Southampton, wolves all played in Europe in recent years. All I want is to watch us play in Europe, there's never been a better chance instead the board will be happy to watch us survive another year. Yeah thats a good idea, why dont we copy Everton. Go out and buy 3 expensive players that may or may not fit the clubs profile. Rolling the dice occassionally works. When it doesn't you end up bottom of the table and unable to spend or you'll be done for breaching FFP

Forget everything else and let's just look at ward in our first 3 games. Do you honestly belive he's good enough ?

As others have said, there is seemingly something up with Johnstone that isn't in the public domain. I doubt a new goalkeeper would have been on the shopping list otherwise, but given Guitia wants out as well, a new good goalkeeper obviously becomes a huge priority if Johnstone does want or need to leave. If Palace solve the problem by getting Henderson then well done to them. If it turns out that there is no problem with Johnstone and we have both on the books then I will agree with you, it's an unnecessary signing. The difference between us seems to be that I presume Palace are acting out of necessity rather than some fetish for new goalkeepers. Time will tell regarding Franca, but I think the need to replace Zaha is far more pressing than the need to replace ward and Clyne, just like signing Andersen, geuhi, Eze, Olise, Hughes, Edouard etc was the more pressing need in the previous few windows. That's a big part of why ward and Clyne remain. The other big part of the reason is that they are OK. Not great, but not tragic as some suggest. The whole point of going through the club's accounts in this thread has been to make the point that Palace can't sign as many players as they might like, and have to focus on whatever the priority is at the time. Ward and Clyne aren't as good as Eze, Olise etc, but neither are Ayew, Schlupp, Tomkins etc. The reason these guys are still in the team alongside the likes of Eze and Olise is that we can only sign so many players and compromises must be made. That's part of the significant skill of running a club, and a big part of what Parish and Freedman do well overall.

I don’t think any palace fan has expectations we can/will match someone likes Everton’s spending. Palace fans aren’t naive, we just want some ambition shown. This club has been sustained on fumes for too long. Eze, olise, Guehi,Andersen and even Franca type deals are still mediocre for the PL. many myself included do not understand why we continually fail to address the difficiencies in this team.

If that is the case we should tell H&B to not worry about players and just buy us a new stand. If nothing else they will have generated extra income for the club and hence a higher capital value when it’s sold on.

Who cares about the clubs accounts, look at utds accounts, they operate at a loss as do most clubs, we know its not because they don't have enough money, are we utd, no, but I don't belive we don't have enough money to strengthen the positions that are so plainly obvious.

Well, guess you will have to go on not believing. Shame you aren't a multi millionaire yourself, you could be showing us and Parish how to run a football club without worrying about that pesky thing called Debt. And just fyi ; Manchester United owe a staggering £969.6 million through gross debt, bank borrowings and outstanding transfer fees. The club released their second quarter results to December 31, on Thursday, and the huge debts could provide an obstacle ahead of a possible takeover. That's as of March this year.
