I just watched the highlights on Palace TV (I was at work on Saturday evening). I'm absolutely furious at:-

A lovely tackle by Olise - foul given to Liverpool.

An equally lovely tackle by Clyne - foul given to Liverpool on the edge of the Palace area and yellow card given to Clyne.

Cynical foul by Robertson (on Ayew or was it Olise?) in the corner...immediately flagged by the line-o who receives a barrage of verbal from the Liverpool player for his troubles. Yellow card rightly given for the foul but no second yellow for the verbal. Moments later Anderson gives the ref some verbal and is immediately booked.

The usual cynical rotation fouling by the 'mighty reds'.

Other observations:

Admittedly it was only 14 minutes of selected highlights, but I thought some of our interplay and movement was pretty good - including from the current personae non gratae Schlupp, Ayew and Mateta.

I expected to have to put my head in my hands at the sight of Mateta missing an open goal and hitting the woodwork, however I thought the chance was a 'half-chance' at best and by no means clear-cut. He's a striker who is well below-average, but on this occasion I thought he did well to get a snap-shot in with the defender so close-by.

The one that Schlupp passed to him (and from which Mateta hit the bar) was a reasonable chance, but not a sitter. Not sure if the highlights showed it, but Mateta made a terrible mess of a very good chance after Alexander Arnold passed it straight to him about ten minutes earlier.

For me, its his all round game that is so poor. Edouard has been very poor in leading the line, but does at least show the odd glimpse of ability in the box. God knows how bad he must be in training to be behind Mateta.

Someone in my vicinity commented that Mateta is a "Poor man's Benteke".

In my humble perspective, Mateta is an honest player who doesn't hide,he does keep running and trying and has a positive mental attitude on the pitch, but alas is found wanting at this level at present.

It’s obvious the plan is to hold back the most talented options in Eze and Edouard, play tight for 60-70 mins knowing full well we aren’t scoring with Mateta and Schlupp in our attack, then try and nick it. Big problem is this isn’t working! 8 games, 0 wins, 4 goals and averaging 2.75 shots on target per game. A what point do we just play our strongest available XI and attack the game from the off?

Last night was an opportunity missed. At home against a Liverpool team in poor form and sandwiched between their champions league fixtures.

I agree totally that a point against Liverpool, even taking into consideration their own poor run of form recently and not forgetting that Klopp made significant changes to the side that played RM. however let's not get carried away this Liverpool team has had some pretty awful results recently and they are easier to score against that they have been for sometime. Yes, there were positives defensively we were much better and the midfield seemed to be more active, however, we had no shots on target and despite the Olise first class crossing in to the box we still lack players with the vision to anticipate and get in to the box quickly attack the goal. If you watch, most of our forwards seem to stop at the penalty area and just stand around admiring these excellent balls in to the box so having Zaha doing the same from the other wing is not going to help unless PV can come up with a better plan for play in the final third. If we continue to fire blanks then the best we can expect is a point or a loss from each game going forward.

We have, I believe achieved just five points since the start of the year which is equal to Bournemouth and the equal worst of all the teams below us in the table and if that form continues then we have to seriously be concerned for our future in epl.

I'm 100% with you on this.

I think Eze deserved to be dropped, but we do look at bit toothless without him. Now we have 2CM's, he could more easily play wit fredom as the 10. But he's equally done well out wide.

Whilst I don't think Wilf's best position is up top, neither JPM or OE really help the team by holding things up or winning headers. So wilf at least might trouble defenders a little bit more.

So assuming we pick hte team, the question that poses is assuming 2 midfield places are now nailed on. Who's the extra man, Ayew of Jeff? And do they play at 10 or wide left?
