I really can't see why Mateta was selected. Absolutely dreadful on Saturday. I imagine he was picked so Tomkins could go long if he needed to but he just doesn't win anything in the air. He didn't close anyone down and he ball control is Sunday league. He's supposed to be an footballer in top condition but looks so unfit. There were times where Dunk just walked out with the ball and had so much time.

That's three home draws on the trot. Credible on paper but in reality we got away with all three.

I don't feel Vieira has any connection to the club. There was absolutely no reaction from him when Tonkins scored against our bitter rivals. He just stood there with no hint of pleasure on his face
I reckon he thought after our and Arsenal's standings last year he might be in with a shot at the job back at his old club. That dream has gone and he has no passion, which a team of moderate resources needs from its manager and players

I think that's more a reflection of our performance. When we equalised against United he was punching the air and normally is quite animated when we score. He's not daft, celebrating wildly after a ridiculous mistake when we've been outplayed would have been a bit embarrassing. I think as someone else alluded to, we probably got the media post-match face, whereas the team may have gotten a different one. It's not like Pulis who always referred to the team and the club as if he wasn't part of it, never using we or us. God I disliked that man despite what he achieved for us in his short spell. Whether it was genuine or not I think Warnock was the king of making you think he really cared.

There is evidence that Vieira has changed tactics in recent games to try and introduce more solidity, although it has not been wholly successful in terms of producing better performances.
Hughes has started to feature more playing alongside Doucoure to try and be a bit more solid.
On Saturday we played a version of 442 with Ayew playing slightly behind Mateta trying to stop the deep Brighton midfield players commence moves.
In fact two tackles from Ayew led to the two half chances for Mateta .
Ayew as usual competed well without offering the cleverness on the ball necessary in the final third.
In my view if we stay up and Vieira continues in the role we will have to strengthen considerably for Vieira’s methods to work.
It would mean signing the likes of AWB, Gallagher and a speedy powerful forward.

'NewsShopper' headlines with Vieira building an exciting young team.
Dear oh dear.

I would get greater excitement from watching a protracted game of Chess than I do watching the dirge on display.

We have no leader on the pitch. But we loan 2 youngsters. As far as the playing style. We used to defend deep and counter attack with paste. Now we defend deep and counter attack slowly. The moveme t in the side is non existent, we must be a joy to play against. I think we are very lucky to still be in 12th place, but cant see us staying there long. Still, could be worse, we could support Liverpool....

We obviously ran out of paste. Typical of how badly the club is run to not get enough in the first place. Hummmphh

We are in the middle of a long series of testing fixtures with another five tough ones to come.

I fear that unless PV can start motivating the team we could well be much nearer the relegation zone come a month from now.

If that proves to be the case the manager's position will begin to look very uncomfortable and it is not encouraging that our stats for distance covered by players is the worst in the PL suggesting we need another Derry to start cracking the whip.

Perhaps PV is 'too nice' but at the moment he is repeating the 'second season decline' he suffered with all his previous clubs and his demise may be inevitable.

??
His first season with Nice saw them improve one place to 7th and the second season saw them move up to 5th (I think it was). He was sacked in the December of the third season after a poor run of results, since when the club has sacked THREE further managers (Including Lucien Favre after his second stint) and are on an interim (4th) manager - which IMO says more about Nice than about Vieira.

Having said that, I reserve my position regarding his performance at Palace until the end of the season. IMO the club are unlikely to sack him UNLESS we fail to win any of the last 10 games (8 of which are against teams currently below us) a scenario that would inevitably lead to relegation. I don't believe it will come to that, though.

Well Tomkins and the rest of team (sans Olise of course) seemed pretty pumped. How do you think they feel when they see their boss with a "Who gives a f***'" look on his face.
Not expecting him to do an Arteta but a fist pump at least.
I could understand if it was a consolation goal at 5-0 down but that might be the point that keeps us up

Couldn't agree more. I don't think you can assess a manager's passion for their club by how they celebrate or don't on the touchline. I think he's been dedicated to the club throughout his tenure, but it's also just natural that managers will come and go.
