First match I attended was on Boxing Day in 1972. We beat Southampton 3-0. Happy days.

The beatings will stop when morale improves.

Truly dreadful and diabolical. No shape or pattern,no team, just individuals who could not pass to one another and a total lack of commitment.
I have been molten with anger and steaming like a cooked clam.

Quite why Patrick Vieira selected that starting 11 is beyond my comprehension.A game to forget.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Some of the comments here are unbelievable.

We started poorly but were growing into the game having weathered the early push by Fulham. That’s not unusual. Then we lost a goal. It happens.

The key turning point was the first red, but we were managing that, containing things and trusting on a breakaway or a late push.

The second red was ridiculous. It wasn’t even a foul. It was cheating which should have resulted in a red the other way, squaring things up from where we could easily have gone on to win. Why VAR didn’t overturn beats me. Tomorrow I will be with a Premier League Assistant Referee who is a mate and will ask him!!!He also works on the VAR.

It was a bad day all round but I expect it to be motivating too.

I totally agree. The ref could not have seen the alleged elbow, so presumably assistant gave it. Mitrovic ran into Tompkins, wasn’t the first time he had thrown himself on the floor. If it was an elbow, surely it should have been a red? Maddley being cute, as yellow card can’t go to VAR.

Be interested to hear his take on it . Wasn't it at the start of the season that for clarity and to stop any debate if there is a handball accidental or not then the goal is dissalowed . The ref today appeared to indicate he thought it was accidental .

The first red was harsh ,the second yellow for JT was a mystery , just dont know what he saw there .

Apart from that we got all we deseverd , nothing

My understanding as well, also the shirt pull. How many decisions not overturned when ref goes to the monitor? He really doesn’t like us but no excuses we were s***

Yep, the usual s*ite on here because we've lost a game.

Moving on hoping for a discussion.... (If only Mitrovic hadn't been fit!!).
I thought both red cards were harsh, the second goal should have surely been disallowed.

Olise and Schlupp in midfield really doesn't work and Zaha should not play in the centre.

Vieirra really needed to change things at half time, stick on some harder working midfielders and a striker that can earn the odd free kick.

Out of the whole team I thought Ayew did the most to get stuck in and won a few tackles,

This usual s***e too. If you think people are going to be happy and not question things after that then you're mistaken. Even when we've somehow won games this season we haven't looked all that, and then there's the leads we've thrown away after Vieras genius substitutions and tactic changes late on, I think people have a right to be pissed off.

We needed leadership on the pitch. Still wondering why PV did not play Ward at Centre Back and make him Captain. He has successfully played there before. Using Tomkins was not one of his better decisions

Totally over run in midfield. Dacoure had no help again as Schlupp's closing down our attempts to run after someone who's gone past him was "again" non existent! Hughes or Luka should start ahead of him, even Luka is more suited to that position and even if a bit slow, makes an attempt to tackle. Wilf should always be on the left....or right, and I'm afraid Mitchell needs a little break with possibly Jairo getting a game or two.

Serious question..... can anyone remember any Boxing Day match where we have actually played a blinder of a game?

All my memories seem to merge into one long impression of overfed, under motivated players lumbering around in a pathetic impression (with the odd exception) of disinterested donkeys...... bit like today, but some of you may know better!

Dwight Gayle scored a screamer away against Vila in a 1:0 win on Boxing Day.

I think.

That was a car crash but not worth getting your knickers in a twist over. We were poor up until the first goal/red card double whammy. From there is was a mountain to climb, from the Tompkins red card it would have needed a Christmas miracle.

It was a freak game with two red cards and have been a lot more than 3. The players still battled to the end to try and keep the score line respectable.

Disappointing, yes. Talk of Viera out, no.

Absolutely yes!

PV trying to shoehorn players into positions and we got found out again. Olise and Eze have offered pretty much nothing all season. Schlupp is not even a football player and Zaha is certainly not a striker.

I just hope to god we sign someone in midfield in Jan because we are getting ran ragged.
