Yes, of course you are right. I'm a klutz. I was referring to a domestic game being live on one or other of the main channels but somehow forgot to mention that bit!

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

Surely Japan’s exploits have to constitute footballing terrorism?

Turning up at the World Cup and beating Germany to then lose to Costa Rica.

I sometimes think that nation exists purely to fu(k with everyone else’s minds!

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Shame they didn't beat England too - if we could get rid of Eddie Jones.

If memory serves me correctly its because we did so badly in that tournament that Eddie Jones was appointed.

Didn't we get beaten by Wales ( making a mess of a last minute play where we should have come inside instead of going down the line which was easier to defend) & failed to get out of our group ?

This has probably veered too far away from the OP and I disagree with your views to such an extent that there is little point in either of us spending any more time on this.

In other news, Morocco beat Belgium! A World Cup that keeps throwing up surprises. England take note.

Didn't get out of our group on a home world cup. However, there was progress maybe 2-3 years ago, but a downward trajectory ever since. Look like also rans in the upcoming world cup in France. Only thing that could possibly save it - sack Jones.

The previous World Cup had the infamous Argentina v Peru game. The structure of the tournament was such that after the first group matches the 8 teams progressing were placed into two groups of four with the winners of those two groups contesting the final. Brazil and Argentina (hosts) were in the same group. The final round of matches in that group saw Argentina's game against Peru starting after the Brazil v Poland game had finished. Argentina needed to win by a clear four goals to reach the final. They ran out 6-0 victors thereby condemning Brazil to the third/fourth place play-off. There were widespread rumours that Peru had been bribed or threatened.

i know about that game, the Peru goalkeeper was locked out the team talk, and brides at government level etc. A good book to read is "against the enemy", but written in the early 90s.

Shame, they always got along so well!

In other news, is anybody as fortunate as I to sit at home half working, half watching the WC?

Cameroon vs Serbia certainly shook the theme of the bore, goalless draw!
