I thought that about Wilf too. He looked as if he had a cold. He was certainly off his game, slow of thought, misplaced passes and poor decisions. I was a little surprised he played the full game.

I wonder how long it will be before one of the big boys recognize his potential and put in a bid we might find difficult to refuse. I understand that the deal with Lens included a sell-on clause.

I think Eze is trying to bring more intensity and physicality to his game, and that he will succeed. We see baby steps in individual matches including v Leeds. That process will undermine his natural game until he comes out the other side of it.. I didn't think he played well on the ball yesterday, mostly.
If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities. |

Show's how much I know lol. Your initial reaction was accurate. A player who floats around avoiding all contact with the opponent - heaven forbid that the manager asks him to tackle once in a while. That said he is class when the ball is at his feet in open play. This is the dilemma the manager has to contend with when trying to pick a balanced side.

After Dermott Gallagher said last week that he thought the yellow card for handsy Thiago was the right decision, this week he says Doucoure should have been sent off for his challenge that got a booking. Thank god he's retired! We seem to have this every time we are not beaten by another of the big city teams that also think they are big in football terms. Including Villa this is the third time , Newcastle, now Leeds , amongst a mountain of whinging by all their local rags , that they find an ex ref to call a decision that did not go their way into question. I agree he was just as poor when he had the whistle, but not the only one.

This perfectly sums up the status of us as a club in the EPL. At our level we normally have to have all players giving more or less 100% in every department, whereas 'luxury players' can float around in sides like Man City because they are so strong in depth they can afford to let them do so. Which is why he will eventually go to a club who can let him continue as that kind of player.

For Eze to mature into the type of player his ability suggests is possible, he will have to take far more responsibility on the pitch, and with that he will be subjected to the kind of marking and treatment that Zaha, and increasingly Olise, receive.

We all moaned about the negative team under Roy but I am absolutely convinced that 4-2-3-1 is the best line up for the majority of our team. We'll get the best of Ebs as a no 10 and Wilf and Olise are clearly at their best coming in from wide. We badly miss that box-to-box midfielder to support Doucoure and until that is put right we will continue to look unbalanced like we did for most of the Leeds game and struggle to flow as well as we did for much of last year.

Perhaps a good thing about having Zaha, Olise and Eze on the pitch at the same time is that if they are all double marked simultaneously then hopefully someone else should be able to walk the ball into the net. I agree about Eze, he frustrates me when he ambles about. He has exceptional short distance speed and I wish he’d use it to close down opponents rather than watching them passing around him. I’m convinced he’d work better as a number 10 in a 4-4-2 but I can’t see us playing that shape.

I'm not saying he is great defensively, but he is trying to get stuck in. He's not just chilling waiting for the ball. in the first half, everyone was chasing shadows. Regardless of opinions, PV wouldn't be trusting him in CM if he couldn't contribute to both side of the game.
