There is nothing wrong in just saying Brantford deserved their point, they caused us problems from the very start and can understand our subs based on our slender lead.

Agree with you there TP. They did what they were allowed to and had to do to get the respected point. Shame we didnt . Has anyone counted the ammount of points we have lost from winning positions ? 2 of the best attacking players taken off last night and replaced with Royball players . Attack is the best form of defence IMO . But fair play to Brentford they took advantage of it . Hate that German t*** though smug crout.

I think even PV he understands that he screwed up. By changing the team so dramatically we had no attacking outlet. We went from Eze, Olise, Wilf, Eddie and schlupp to eddie and wilf.

We should have brought on Eboiwei if we were going 4-5-1. or 5-4-1

That would at least have given us another attacking option. We just kept feeding the ball back to them.

Another great point!

I bemoaned that last night given as we fended off one wave, we had nothing to do with the ball asides from lose it and prepare for the next... 1-1.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Can someone tell me how they got their goal. From where I was sitting all i could see was a Brentford forward with a free unmarked header right in the middle of the penalty area

I would propose that if you are the manager it is your duty to choose the right tactics and players for any situation you assess, and to have trained them, therefore PV is at fault. He could well be animated at Johnstone coming on and missing a last minute penalty we might of won but would again be responsible if Johnstone taking it is his decision. Bad worker - tools springs to mind.

The context here being that I don't think there's need for massive reaction just yet but it is something PV needs to address and he has to take responsibility for not managing us to see that game out yesterday which I, and I think many others (including Wilf), are inclined to believe we could have done.

It’s obvious PV did not make a right decision hence the result, of course we can’t be sure their five forward thinking substitutions would not have got them that result if he had not changed the set up. In the same way in most respects Considering the obvious limitations of some players, Viera tactics have achieved some remarkable results. All because he trusts the players to carry out instruction. So why should last night have been different ,other than sometimes your players respond sometimes they don’t.
Wilf, might be right, but then again , he might reflect that his own contribution outside of a fantastic one off strike could have been better, and his opinions maybe should be aired in the changing room, and left there.

The most disappointing thing for me was to see Ward, who I thought had a great game until he was displaced from left back and then didn’t appear to know where to play.

We were in total control defensively as a four and in my opinion the way to counter an all out attack should be by bolstering the midfield, not the defence. I would have preferred to see us finish the game in 4-5-1 which can translate back into a 4-3-3 in transition. All we really did by going 5 at the back was to say, see if you can break us down which they did once and could have scored twice more.

If they have been practicing 5 at the back then it was very poor in its execution but you have to question its wisdom in the first place.

Yes that just sums it up really free header unmarked around the pen area a bit of power in it to be fair. If Vincente was a bit braver he could have came out and took his head off or at least put him under a bit of presure .

Another thing I noticed was Olise quite clearly not impressed he was taken off, huffing and blowing in the dugout.

I am having my doubts about him this season. I notice he doesn't seem to come for high balls in the area that he should be able to collect and wonder if he is just not verbally commanding 'his manor'?

PV needs to learn that “shutting up shop” and messing around with the back 4 simply doesn’t work.

Last year he tried he against Brighton (twice), arsenal away and again last night. All 4 games we conceded in the 87th minute or later.

Yes agree with you there ST , He doesnt command the area very well and i think there is a lack of calls on wether he is collecting the ball. I think it makes the defenders a bit nervy . There was a few occasions he could have came out and claimed the ball but left it. Dont get me wrong a great keeper but could be more commanding . Just my opinion .

I don't think he ever has really ST from my memory, very much a 'stay at home' keeper, or 'shot-stopper' to put a more positive spin on it.

Anyway you look at it, over the course he has been a fantastic signing for us and a brilliant keeper, one of our best for x amount of time I'd argue. Butland was brought in but very much looked the polar opposite to VG unhelpfully, might be tall and (I'm guessing don't actually know) commanding but looked 'Hennessey-esque' at times, liable to concede any 'worldy' fired at him from range.

In an ideal world, you'd want a keeper that could command a box including aerially but also have faith in one-on-ones or 'shot-stopping'. I was under the impression Johnstone could be that but I personally haven't seen anything of him yet, at all, literally. On that note is he still out or being left out?

I think VG's tenure is reaching the end of it's lifespan and I genuinely wish him all the best whatever happens and will be eternally grateful but I am hoping Sam J will step up to that proverbial plate.

agreed. He was an excellent player, maybe 5 years ago. Now ? time to ply his trade in the Championship or to think about a coaching career.
