What do you want to do then - get Pullis or Allerdyce back? Maybe Woy fancies one more season. Yes it was a cr*p second half. It happens. Especially in that atmosphere. What about Villa last Sunday - fought back with ten minutes left. Southampton - fought back to win it after being behind.
This is why I put up the info to show that was not the case. No it was not only a c**p second half this is a problem we have had all season are you another that needs history lesson. We keep conceding goals in the same manner and blowing it against these types of teams here is a few for you Brighton, Burnley, Norwich this is acceptable to you is it and we spent a lot of money yet look what it has done. We lost the game when 2 ahead to a team who are not known for scoring plus really are not that good

You obviously don’t check. We have scored 18 more goals than last season with one game to go and conceded 5 less. Its is well documented by our manager that we do score enough goals or get in to the last third quick enough and that our strikers do not anticipate or get in to the six yard box quick enough to pick up crossed or deflected balls. As for the goals scored in actual fact as far as the PL is concerned, it is true that we have scored 8 goals more than last season (Not 1 at the time of writing but our points total 20/21 was 44 and to date with 1 game to go we have just one point more. Our win ratio is 10/37 games this season versus 12 last season and this will not be bettered even if, in the unlikely event, we were to win tomorrow. Our win ratio is is only better that Soton, Burnley, Leeds, Watford and Norwich. For the record Roy did a great job on a shoestring budget and PV has done a reasonable job considering all the changes in players and style, however he has had more money to invest in the team than Roy ever did and this must not be forgotten. it was the right time for Roy to leave and at least he left us on high note. Please under no illusion unless we get new players in during the summer we are going to struggle again next season.

I sincerely doubt that if Roy had more money to spend he'd have set up any differently. He had the pick of the bunch when England manager, look at how they ended up playing. We had a number of end-of-contract ageing players and Roy saw us to safety, we can all be grateful for that. It was highly unlikely (in fact it didn't happen) that Roy was going to be given a bundle of spending money whilst those players were still on the books.

There is that, and you are absolutely right. Am I allowed to say that frankly, Wilf was f***ing awful last night; as poor a game as I can remember him having in a Palace shirt? I'm not sure he really did a single useful thing all night. Strangely, though, it did underline the value of Wilf. Even when he is utter crap, defenders are absolutely terrified every time he gets the ball and he draws opposition players into his space like a magnet, thus (as often happened last night) freeing up room for Eze (who looks to be returning to form) to exploit. I thought Wilf's second half performance was poor, but you could also say that about most of our players. First half, Zaha and Mitchell were combining well and presented Everton with plenty of problems.

The question is could PV have done anything better with the squad Roy inherited, I suspect not, as our current points total indicates and it is more likely that we would have been relegated. The club earnings by being in PL under Roy, will be a significant contribution to this club finances going forward in future years!

Early second half goal seemed to turn the tide. If we had battered the onslaught for 15 minutes or so we would of come away with something. Disappointing capitulation after a nice little needed unbeaten run. Think we will be lucky to get anything tomorrow as Man Ure will be well rested and want it more, like Everton on Thursday night. Agree with you completely. I see no reason at all to think we will struggle next season. Of course, being Palace it could all go tits up in a moment, but if ever there's been a season in top-flight that we have reason to go into feeling at least somewhat confident, it's next season (and I've been there for EVERY season we've ever been in top-flight). Are we perfect? No. But we should be worrying about finishing between 8th and 10th next year, not between 18th and 20th. Why? We have an extremely young and extremely high quality back four. Teams that succeed are ALWAYS built from the back. We are very well set there. We have a manager who is competent; who seems to get it. We have an abundance of creative/flair players who can change games (Wilf, Olise, Eze) and the latter two are young and developing. They should be BETTER next season than this. Yes, we need a true goalscorer (who we may already have but if so, either Mateta or Edouard really needs to step up and deliver full-time) and yes, we need to sort out our midfield for the longer term, but we look nothing like a side that's likely to be in for a struggle. At least we don't to me. Edited by sydtheeagle (21 May 2022 11.03am)

As I have already said, it all depends on new additions over the summer as to how well we do next year. The next season will be PV second in PL with virtually a new team in this league and sadly history says that new teams who survive the first season in PL, often get found out and get relegated in the second season, Bielsa and Leeds are a good example and there are others like Huddersfield and Sheff Utd before them! We have been weak all season in the final third and we are probably losing our best player who goes back to Chelsea after tomorrow, we cannot afford to be complacent!

I think you're barking up the wrong tree here. We are not a '' new team '' we are a club that has now racked up 10 consecutive seasons in the Premier League. We have considerable Premier League experience throughout the squad together with the younger element that have performed so well as to receive international recognition. Scoring goals is a problem not unique to us. Outside of the top 6 clubs most find this an issue. At least this season we have been competitive in the vast majority of the games we have played and that has enabled us to have a positive goal difference. The squad needs fine tuning over the summer. I'm sure, again, most clubs will feel the need to do likewise. As for losing our best player, no we're not. On 2 counts. He's not our player. Neither has he been the best player at Palace this season. While I'm not undervaluing his contribution, I think a combination of his style of play and media hype around him has elevated him to a point where some bang average performances have been overlooked.
