I seem to remember Marlon Brando's Oscar award (must have been for The Godfather). He sent an Native American girl in full tribal dress to receive it, who then castigated the USA for their treatment of NAs.

It's most likely that what JPS is suffering from is 'traction alopecia', which is caused by severe and persistent tight pulling of the hair - as is usually done with the 'cornrow' style she has favoured for many years......, so Ricky is probably right!

It seems it's a universal 'compliment'!
After 2 years living in central London, my next 37 were spent in Kent (well, Erith!). Such 'observations' about Essex people were very common in that neck of the woods. It was often said that the River Thames served an important purpose for Erithians in that it kept people from Dagenham (pretty much directly opposite) away!
