It must have been more than just the penalty decision that's caused him to be dropped as that clearly came from VAR, even if Friend shouldn't have listened to Pawson. The offside decision was also VAR and the linesman not Friend. It's a shame we won't see a report explaining the decision. Personally I thought he was poor throughout the game so it may just have been an accumulative thing.

They are a pair of cheating b******s and should be sacked not just dropped to a lower division for one match .

Pawson is actually more culpable than Friend on the big decisions. You are correct but Friend’s overall performance and smugness from start to finish beggars belief. They both should be removed for, at least the rest of the season.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Kevin Friend - Dropped' by becky As a fully qualified cynic, it would not surprise me if such decisions were part of unwritten PL policy, aiding those clubs that benefit the PL the greatest. Whether or not that is the case, it does make sense.

Whether or not that is the case, it does make sense. Probably not far from the truth but we will never know. This could explain why refs are never sacked, can’t risk one speaking out. Possibly a bit far fetched but after witnessing Friend/Pawson at work anything seems possible

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Kevin Friend - Dropped' by becky I've argued this for a while. Referees should be held to account to explain their decisions. I would not expect a ref to come out straight after a game and give a live interview that is too much pressure and they may misspeak. However I don't see why they can't release a written match report I think they prepare one for the referees body anyway. I think the public have a right to know. For example we all assume that the penalty was given because the keeper "fouled" Jota but perhaps he gave it for Joel Ward? It's not going to change the result but it might clear up what they were thinking.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Kevin Friend - Dropped' by becky Liverpool are the masters at influencing referees. They’ve been sowing the seeds for years./55 You can’t turn on a football programme without being bombarded by their ex-players. They have perfected the victim culture over you know what. There’s even a mainstream TV drama about that. This all weighs on the mind of the referee, he’s thinking I’d better not deny Liverpool a goal think of all the grief I’ll get.
