At the beginning of the season I was hopeful that this might be the season that Jairo makes the breakthrough with there being more emphasis on passing through the midfield under Vieira.
Sadly the defensive deficiencies in Jairo’s game make this unlikely.
He doesn’t seem any further forward in this regard than when he made that rocky debut v Huddersfield.
You can’t afford the luxury of a player who doesn’t do the basics correctly I.e not leaving your man when marking, not turning your back when an opponent is taking a shot and not going to sleep at crucial moments which can change matches.
He doesn’t seem have improved in these areas notwithstanding his other attributes.

I was unable to listen or watch a stream yesterday and so had to be content with MoD this morning.
I thought that Benteke hit the woodwork?
Also for their second goal Wilf was fouled first but nothing given and immediately Mitchell makes a good tackle they get a free kick and bang - 2-0!
It seems the result was a lucky 3-0 but we have to take our chances when they come.
Reidewald at fault for 2 goals but why bring him on - poor sub in my opinion.
Never expected to win yesterday but pleased we have a good account of ourselves.

Yes i agree with you there , it was a bad sub to make , he was left for dead at the 2nd goal , i dont know if he wasnt paying attention to mane or just couldnt get off quick enough , i dont know if Luka would have done any better though . Jario does not look match fit and has put on weight i dont know if its muscle or fat , but it cant be doing his pace any good . should have left jimmy on .

no guaita was at fault for the 3rd he should have caught that , jairo done what most people do when a volleys coming protect the face, and he got caught ball watching for 2nd, but has they said we should have pulled a player out from the middle to stop salah run

The final scoreline was disappointing given that Palace put in a far more assertive and competitive performance than in recent times at Anfield.

But the defending at set pieces didn't reach the standard required at this level. I'm sure that will get the coaching teams attention.

Overall though, the players are adjusting well to the new style of play. It may have been the same result as at Chelsea but I thought a vast improvement in how we played.

I have to pass comment on the referee - a cowardly performance.

Individuals defending, these players have to show they can improve otherwise..

Nothing wrong with his punch, it was what happened with our defending after that also it was a perfectly placed shot not a lot of those sort of attempts do that.

He lacks speed of movement needed when blocking shots and marking quick Liverpool players, but he has amazing composure with an ability to make himself space when in possession, it was very evident that having him playing in yesterday's position is the very place he shouldn't be.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

It was very evident from early in the game that we were playing against the referee as well. Madley and his brother shouldn't be anywhere near a Premier League game.

I'd echo the concerns about creating and converting clear cut chances and Ayew, Riedewald and Benteke and defending set pieces.

Irrespective of style of play the games are ultimately won and lost in each penalty area.

As I've said before I think we may be batting off or accepting bids for Andersen come the end of the season.

As i said thought Hughes should have come on, but people tend to over look anything that players do well, Guaita is very good shot stopper but poor at crosses he should have caught that, Jairo lost Salah but so did Jimmy for the first, so at the end of the day we lost playing well but not well enough at both ends

Apparently it's the ninth consecutive game that Mane has scored against us.
I read an interview today in which he says he would like to play us every weekend, which I suppose is no surprise with that record.
Time to break that record in the home game later in the season.

In fairness, Mane and Salah are fantastic players. They must be a nightmare to mark and could peel away like that against some of the world's best players.

From the highlights only, we had a couple of good chances and it looked like Benteke was tripped. You need the rub of the green against Liverpool, yesterday we didn't get it. At least we posed a threat and didn't get ripped apart in open play.

Without going on about Benteke, I presume Edouard should start against Brighton? Perhaps Olise too?
