can we move this thread to news/politics or even better have a new topic area - 'tit for tw*t' talk, or 'saddo fencing' talk so every time a thread degenerates into a personal slanging match, esp if it's in a left/right context, it goes to that dark, smelly recess only a few regulars are drawn to?

if we can all agree that Emma Raducanu : - is a wonderful tennis player - is a wonderful example of modern Britishness - is a beautiful young lady - is intelligent, charming and erudite. - is to be respected as an individual - has finished this chapter by winning a wonderful trophy

It was in response to "Lefties love to bore us with all that LGBT agenda" as if right wing people were all heterosexuals who didn't impose their opinions on others I get that minorities shouldn't be forced into things they don't agree with....which I thought was the case for many decades... but likewise shouldn't the majority decide how the majority live? Instead of the tolerant compromises of the past today seems like you have to agree, agree to be indoctrinated or its condemnation....and lose your job.

And as for the aforementioned inappropriateness, I'm reminded of French and Saunders' impersonation of the two dirty old men, nothing sinister, just a bit naff and ridiculous. So well done Emma, by far the most interesting thing ever to have come out of Bromley.

Anyway, back to tennis.... Perhaps a statement of the obvious, but Emma Raducanu hasn't won a professional tennis match other than at this year's Wimbledon or the US Open, yet she reached the last 16 of the former and is champion of the latter. Absolutely incredible.

I heard that soundbite somewhere too, but it's not actually true. For example, she reached the final of the Chicago Challenger just before the US Open, and got through a couple of rounds at Nottingham. Originally posted by YT

It’s accepted it was a fantastic achievement from an unknown British girl. What I found very impressive, was her acceptance speech. Obviously well educated, didn’t show any nerves in front of a huge crowd and shown to millions all around the world. I doubt if she would of had any sort of training for that.

When the umpire said 15-0 I genuinely thought it was Emma's birthday.

Totally agree Painter.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

Yes, and talented outside the court, when she went in to a whole chapter in mandarin to talk to her family back home, I must confess, I had a tear in my eye! Beautuful Emma, just beautiful.
