I agree, ultimately I think it would've gone the same way. They folded like a cheap deckchair, and we can only assume that it's because our plans for them were so at odds with their culture to begin with. A huge waste of time and billions of dollars worth of US military equipment now in Taliban hands.

I think it is a little unfair to blame the Afghan Military as a whole.

Disclaimer: there were clearly huge problems with discipline within the ranks of the ANA.

However in their defence
The ANA were only getting paid when the Afghan government felt like it & the unbelievable amount of corruption that was going on from the top down.
Many Afghan soldiers (who hadnt sold their equipment) going into battle poorly equipped and sometimes without ammunition.
Foreign parties teaching progressive woke politics in schools like some kind of mad Christian missionaries was clearly pissing off a lot of Afghans who saw this as an attack on their culture.

80,000 Afghan soldiers died fighting the Taliban over the last 20 years.

Trump had reduced the numbers of US military down to something like 2500 troops who were acting in a Support role, the ANA was quite happily holding its own.

So I would say the ANA clearly did have the stomach for a fight, Biden's catastrophic cut & run was the catalyst for the collapse, couple that with the lack of US air support calling in Air strikes on Taliban targets, the Afghan government being weak as f***, and ANA commanders cutting deals with the Taliban and disappearing caused the whole thing to collapse there simply was no chain of command, once there is no plan things quickly deteriorate into chaos.

What we now know is, there are at least 10,000 US personnel dotted all across Afghanistan completely cut off with no way to get to Kabul, Biden's Military advisors told him not to do what he did but he ignored them and pushed ahead with his plan anyway.
Biden is now relying on the Taliban (who were shouting death to America in the streets of Kabul yesterday) to escort said 10,000 US personnel to Kabul and allow them to board a plane & leave.

And this mad c*** is still President.
