I'll be honest I've not been impressed whenever I've seen him play. One of my work colleagues goes home and away with Arsenal. He's pretty knowledgeable with his football... He says Nketiah is awful.. Literally brings nothing to the table... He says the general consensus with Arsenal fans is that they are glad he's refusing to sign a new contract..

I'm not overly fussed if this one goes through.

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!!

After how successful our business in the summer was I'm fully back on board with our player recruitment and if they've seen something in Nketiah, I'd have faith in that.

Arsenal fans may say he's s*** but I'm sure West Ham fans felt the same about Sebastien Haller and he's now top scorer in the Champions League. Sometimes a player just needs a new club or a new system to ignite their career.

I certainly won't be gutted if it doesn't happen but it has a feeling of inevitability about it if we can find a middle ground on wages.

Or an actual run of league games

Which Nketiah won't get when Zaha is back and assuming Zaha and Edouard remain fit.

I think in a couple of seasons time our front three may be Nketiah with Eduardo and Olise either side of him.
This may be PV and freedman’s plan for when Wilf and Benteke leave.

Just a guess, but I have a feeling Wilf's time at Selhurst is drawing to a close. The next two windows are probably the last chance we're going to have to get a serious fee for him; we're well on the way to recruiting a side which no longer needs to rely on him, and even though he seems generally happier this season, I get the sense that moving on may suit all parties. In the past, he's been kept because selling him didn't suit us. That's no longer the case, at least the way it used to be. Wilf's problem now is that I doubt the really big clubs, the ones who might have eyed him a couple of years ago, might (now he's in his late 20s) no longer be interested so it may boil down to if he's prepared to go somewhere like Everton or Newcastle.

As for Nketiah, I can see the argument on both sides of the coin. There are a lot of "fringe forwards" at "big" clubs around whom there's a lot of noise but they ultimately don't amount to much more than journeymen when given the chance elsewhere. And Nketiah hasn't entirely ripped up trees when he has had opportunities at Arsenal and on loan. On the other hand, I trust our judgment and if Vieira thinks there's something there, that's good enough for me at this point. Given that Mateta is likely to be off and Benteke is presumably not going to be around for much longer, Nketiah at a reasonable fee seems like a worthwhile risk for the future with a decent upside compared to the alternatives. He certainly hasn't hit his ceiling yet.

Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God.

Nketiah's going to stay with us - Arteta
Liverpool v Arsenal (Thu, 19:45 GMT)

Arsenal

Asked if Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah and defender Pablo Mari will leave in January, boss Mikel Arteta said: "Every situation is different. There’s a lot of factors that make that decision at the moment. Everybody here is involved."

On Nketiah, Arteta added: "He’s our player and he’s going to stay with us."

I wonder if that means Mateta will stay now.

It's nice for a change to be in a position where it doesn't feel like we need to be desperately looking for players. It may be that this is also influencing our bargaining position with a 'take it or leave it' approach, especially given Nketiah is out of contract in six months.

I don't think anyone is that bothered if this doesn't come off anyway.

I agree with you lovechild, and frankly, after seeing his dire performance at the weekend, I would prefer Nketiah to stay where he is.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Agree with that, not the kind of striker I hope we are not going for.
