Fantastic little player. Good to have real ambition on the ball like that considering how tentative some of the team when it's played to them.

Yep, and still only 19. Just shows what young players can achieve given the chance.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Amazing result and you got to say we look certs to get to the final. However, to me the tactics remain so negative and think we’re underperforming. Let’s be honest, it was an even game which could have gone either way - just before the Sterling goal I was telling my mates we’ve flopped again and Germany will score soon. Luckily we took our chances and they didn’t.

We set up making ourselves hard to beat in the hope that a moment of magic will unlock the defence. There doesn’t appear to be any clear attacking strategy. With the energy and skill of our attackers we really should dominating the ball, swarming all around them like wasps and creating chances galore. It’s a tough watch which it shouldn’t be.

It will be the same against Ukraine, very negative with two defensive midfielders and we’ll win 1-0/2-0 and the media will laud Southgate as the messiah.

Denmark are in an emotional place so they’ll provide a tough test but we should get through.

Hope I’m wrong, but I think both Italy and Belgium will be too much for us in the final, due to our negativity.

Spot on.

Only England fans could beat Germany 2-0, not concedede a goal the whole tournament, and decide we're underperforming.

In what world are we going to dominate the ball and create chances galore agaisnt that German team? They have as much quality in the team as we do.

expecting 'chances galore' is a bit much. Most of the matches in this round were cagey for at least the first half, and then started to open up, as ours did albeit not as much. Despite the talent we have in the squad now, we've never been a great international team with nowhere near the pedigree of Germany, Portugal, Belgium, Spain, Italy etc so you're in dreamland if you think we can suddenly start dominating international tournaments with Champagne football.

It's bloody hard to break down defensive lines with how most of the teams have set up. I'd have liked to see a bit more attacking intent and ways to split the defence, however Southgate won't do that at the expense of opening up our own defence, and I think that's right for where we are in our development and how we can realistically try to win a tournament. I don't think we're far off clicking into gear, Kayne was woeful for most of the game and I'd have endorsed taking him off before he score, but there's more to come I'm sure and maybe he'll improve now he has his goal. If he wins the tournament with this team structure I'll be happy, and it's a positive position to go into a WC next year.

4 games, none conceded. We've beaten world cup finalists and the Germans. Knocked out Scotland. Yet people complain.

Prior to Southgate, we hadn't won a knock out game since 2006.

For some admitting we are doing well, would be admitting that his predicessors failed.

Agree - it also means admitting any doom & gloom pre-tournament predictions were nonsense, and so it's much easier to just insist you're still right.

In my defence, I didn't specifically aim that comment at the Germany game. It was general gripe about our lack of attacking strategy/intent throughout the tournament. I agree England and Germany are relatively evenly matched (I'd say 55/45 in England's favour). Last night was a great result, but it could easily have been 0-2 on another day.

My point is, we'll see the same negativity against Ukraine, who are a team, that if motivated and with the right tactics, we really should be pasting 3-0 with 70% possession. It will be the same cautious dross we saw against Scotland & Czech Republic and we'll probably scrape over the line.

On paper, England vs Ukraine is similar to Man City vs Burnley. We shouldn't be grinding out 1-0 wins. It will bite us in the arse at some point. I just don't see Southgate as the master tactician the media make him out to be. I hope to be proved wrong.

What I will say is he's done a great job of building team spirit and getting the media on side.

Fair enough - I think it's a valid criticism of Southgate that he is over-cautious, but I don't think it could be applied yesterday and it's an approach which has generally worked for him in tournaments.

I think language like "we really should be pasting 3-0 with 70% possession" is where you lose me - the same logic says France should've pasted Switzerland, and Holland pasted Czech Republic, but that's not how football works and certainly not knockout tournament football.

Southgate is cautious, but we don't have a divine right to beat anyone - safety first has worked so far.

Apologies I have posted this on the coronavirus thread but as it also relates to England I wanted to give it as much visibility as possible.

As some of you know I am a vaccine volunteer I received this today.

""We have been advised of a mass vaccination clinic at Crystal Palace on Saturday 3rd July. I have no further information than that at the moment, apart from the following:

The event will be a celebration of football and music, with the Club televising the England Quarter Final Euros match on their large screen to people in the stands who got their tickets by coming along for vaccination. There will also be a DJ on site and some high profile music performances (securing Stormzy to ‘headline’). Appointments will be available on the NBS and we are looking to deliver 6k-10k Pfizer vaccinations to under 40s""

So if you have not had the first jab or it is now 8 weeks since you did book an appointment and get down to the Palace on Saturday get the jab and enjoy the day.

I expect there will be a press release at some point so if someone could post it this was an internal email asking for vaccine volunteers.
