Blaming covid for the lack of dough and having to stop free licenses is a low shot.

The government is now threatening to decriminalise non payment of the licence fee as punishment for the over 75's row. The BBC must be taking advice from Arthur Scargill! If I was the government I would play it exactly as they are doing. Let the BBC alienate the public then decriminalise the fee and when non payment goes through the roof abolish it all together as the public has spoken. If the BBC cannot see this they they are self entitled idiots. Far better the BBC scraps stuff that no one cares about to save money and offer a compromise to the government over free licence fees for the over 75's. However they are sleepwalking into a fight they will lose and I am not complaining. Most of my neighbours are in this bracket they can afford to pay but they are pretty angry about it. If pensioners have one thing it is time on their hands. Get ready for letters to MPs zimmer frame marches and little old ladies appearing in court for non payment.

The BBC is a dead man walking. Defended the licencing model for decades but now cannot wait to see it have the rug pulled from under its feet.

The BBC is an outrageous bargain. £157.00 per annum for all that? And you do have the choice of having it or not. It would cost you a fortune to get the spectrum of coverage the BBC supplies. The only thing wrong with the licence fee is that it is too low. And why would our elderly tories mind paying, after all they put them back in power. Don't knock it!

So you agree with OAPs being threatened and taken to court? You also agree with Lineker's wages and that OAPs should pay for that. Well done.

£14 per month is not a bargain when I choose to pay amazon £7.99. You say we have a choice when we don't if you own a TV you have to pay.

I totally agree that there should never have been any criminal element, really I have never seen why they cannot set up a simple system to collect the fee through general taxation with allowance for hardship etc.

Emma if you want to lecture me about the BBC, Climate Change, Racism etc. you will need to buy a licence from me.

Personally I think over 75s should have the option to pay any amount from 0 to the full fee.

Scrap the licence fee and get the BBC to have adverts. They already show a load of drivel between programmes so they might as well be adverts.
