The guy who suggests I promoted "elitism" has no idea what he is talking about. Believing in the supremacy of Parliament and for our elected representatives to be free to decide for themselves what is best for their constituents, and the country as a whole, is not elitism. It is a belief in democracy itself and not in the drift towards the kind of pseudo dictatorship we are witnessing. If there is any elitism to be seen it's to be found there, in the hands of those wielding the levers and taking the behind the scenes decisions whilst the system whips the sheep through the lobbies. Johnson wasn't chosen by his MPs at all. It was the 200,000 or so Tory party members who did that. Who selected the candidates is another question but my understanding is that they all had to commit to supporting the manifesto 100% or they would not be chosen. So much for the one nation "broad church" Tory party of old. It's now bleat our way or you will be in the abattoir tomorrow.

Candidates were selected by the associations before the Conservative manifesto was published. The manifesto was published 12 days before polling day.

The country vote for a party to govern and that parties members vote for the person to lead it. 200,000 voters is better than 350 odd.

Johnson was selected by a large majority of Tory MPs in every round....blimey. Wiggle wiggle. So this lib dem 'Believes in the supremacy of Parliament' but when the people give a clear mandate with a significant majority for a party in the parliament....it's a 'pseudo dictatorship'. How that squares with a 'belief in democracy' is beyond me.

I seldom waste my time responding to your posts as I find that you are as narrow minded as my dog when there is food about so any response is generally a complete waste of time but I would point out that your definition of democracy is at odds with that of our Prime Minister who said in his speech over the weekend that MPs should never forget that they are the servants of the people and not their masters and they should remember that they should carry out the will of the people that elected them. Your statement about drifting towards a "pseudo dictatorship" is as daft as much of the other drivel that you post. We have just had a General Election in which every citizen over the age of 18 cast their vote for whomever they wished. People allegedly turned their backs on Corbyn as they didn't like him or what he represented and anyone who voted Conservative was just as free to do the same and cast their vote elsewhere, Nigel Farage said that he intended to spoil his ballot paper and that avenue was open to everyone else that wished to make a point but it seems that the majority were happy to freely vote for your so called dictator. Your side has lost now twice so just get over it

Imagine tonight if any of our team don’t follow Roy’s plan. Football is a very good way of comparing other things. Vision, Leadership, teamwork, desire to win, pulling together, sheer hard work, but above all, the will to win.

That said,'Wisbech' has never admitted to being a 'Lib Dem'.He asserted that he was a member of 'More United' and was apolitical.I would have thought that being a member of this organisation doesn't necessarily equate to being politically neutral. Edited by Willo (16 Dec 2019 12.19am) Fair enough but did they then have to give their commitment without actually knowing what the manifesto said?
