cJust got home from the game. To get some perspective, we have been beaten away from home by a top 6 team. And not thrashed either. But it was the manner of the defeat that was disappointing. I thought we did well to still be level at half time because Spurs were playing some decent stuff. Survive for the 10-15 mins of the 2nd half and they could become frustrated. But having conceded on 55 mins, that was the time for Roy to gamble and try something different and he didn't do it. I've staunchly defended Roy on here against some ( in my opinion ) unwarranted criticism, but the timing of the substitutions was wrong tonight. This - mostly. We had 3 defensive midfielders on and were looking to frustrate and maybe nick a point. At half time even though we were well 2nd best at least respect the point. As soon as we went 1 down it was time to change. It was obvious that the players on the pitch were never going to score. Take off Jimmy Mc and Bats and bring on Tekkers and Andros. At least you can use Tekkers as a target man to hold up and bring in Townsend and Zaha. Give them something to worry about. Sure we were likely to lose, but its a free hit. At least go down fighting if we do lose. Given what players earn nowdays its a crime that they can't pass to a fellow player. That was really bad.

How can anyone defend that performance or tactics tonight it was a total embarrassment it’s not about win, lose or draw it’s the manner of the performance. Yes we are on our best run since the club was formed but that does not mean performances like tonight are acceptable. The fans deserve better than that. It’s time Roy retired there is no doubt we should be competing with the likes of Wolves, Watford, West Ham, Leicester & Bournemouth something we are not currently doing. Given how much all those teams have spent, especially compared to us, we’re not doing as badly as some would make out.
If you come to a fork in the road, take it. |

Roy is not God. He doesnt make the right decision every time. He thought Harry Kane taking corners was a good idea. He was a s*** England manager. His idea of integrating a new foreign signing into the team is piss poor. Playing long ball, to a player who cannot win headers or hold the ball up, and then waiting until you are 2 nil down with 10 mins left to actually get men forward, is f&cking dumb. Lo and behold we didnt have a shot on target. The stats dont lie. Whatever Roy tried to do tonight, it was an utter failure. I dont expect to beat Spurs, I expect to have a f&cking go at it and be remotely competitive. Guaita has fitted well into the team, he is “foreign”. Look at the league table the gap between 6th and 7th down is huge, it showed against Spurs. Unless we are right on top of our game, a top teams quality will win. Sadly last night we couldn’t get into the game, making subs wouldn’t of changed much, Spurs had a lot to fight for, our season is over.

We were so negative last night in our attacking play yet Roy has the nerve to say that we made life difficult for Spurs which is total rubbish when in fact we made it easy for them by sitting off them and constantly giving the ball back to them when we did have it. There were several times when we had the ball in good areas for Zaha to run at their defence but instead we went backwards until it was back with Guaita. Basically we played like we were there to make up the numbers and we showed no interest in trying to win the match and were just in awe of the occasion. The last ten minutes we attacked and looked dangerous so why wait until we were two goals down? I would have thought that Roy would want to show more ambition to win matches knowing he has a limited time as a manager left in him but he keeps playing this negative safety first turgid football and he is turning the fans against him. Parish needs to have a Bristol car park moment with him like he did Freedman and say that he needs to improve the playing style or else

From the very beginning it was clear that it was only going to go one way. You can't play negatively and expect to get positive results. They had to win that game, pressure was on, and they're notorious for bottling the big occasions. Why not have a crack? They didn't look that special to me. We, however were just sitting ducks. There is no way that we trained with a football this week, concentrating more on positioning and shape I suspect. What's the f***ing point? Edited by ChrisGC (04 Apr 2019 7.13am)

There was a time when professional football was allowed no substitutions. Then one (to cover an injury), to gradually allow a coach enough subs to have the chance to fundamentally change the game. The bench is now nothing less than a crucial weapon in a team's armoury. Unfortunately yesterday we had a coaching team who recognised that relegation is more or less not going to happen so would rather avoid the discomfort of shaking Pochettino's hand after a 4 plus - 0 defeat than actually compete in a game of football.

Would have liked to have seen us go for it a bit more, especially at 1 nil. Puzzled as to why Roy didn't make the changes then, giving the likes of Tekkers and Andros a bit more time to get into the game. Perhaps if Roy had gone for it a bit more, we would have got something from the game, but we could just as easily have been picked off and lost by more. Is it better to lose 3 nil while "going for it" versus being cautious and losing 2 nil? I don't know. There have been a few flat performances this season. A few very good ones too. But is this really enough of a reason to call time on Roy, because we haven't been 'that great' this season? Would Palace fans really be that much happier with a younger, more attacking "forward-thinking" manager? Let's say, for arguments sake, we got someone in like Eddie Howe... I mean look at Bournemouth's away results at the top 6: Chelsea 2 Bournemouth 0 Pretty bad results for a more "adventurous" style of football. Would we be happy with these kinds of score lines? I think it just underlines how tough it is for us smaller premier league clubs. Do you stick or twist? Roy tends to be more cautious at times, but we rarely get spanked. Our goal difference isn't bad at -5, considering where we are in the table. But at the same time, you could argue that Bournemouth's play is generally a bit more entertaining, even if they get spanked a few times. End result is we'll probably finish on a similar points total to Bournemouth like last season (even though we played for half a season without a recognised striker). In my view that's not too bad for a club like palace. Relative safety. Parish and board will probably stick, rather than twist, and keep Roy. I personally don't think it's that bad, he's a safe pair of hands, we're unlikely to get relegated with him as boss. Might even improve a bit next season, given a bit of backing to improve the overall squad. But if we twisted and did change the manager, who would we get? Eddie Howe probably wouldn't come to us. Others like Lampard and Wagner have been mentioned as being possible options, in a similar vein to Howe. Are they safe pairs of hands or quite a big gamble? What about others? Southampton managed to get Ralph Hasenhüttl. He's being praised for turning them around this season. Yet their form in 2019 is really no different to Palace under Roy (although Ralph does thump his chest like Klopp, perhaps that's all fans want these days). Could we attract someone similar, with a growing reputation? E.g. Mark Van Bommel is doing a good job at PSV, would he be a good option? Would he give up champions league to come to Palace? Even if he did, look what happened when we got FDB, another manager who had done well in the dutch league. There's really no magic wand for this. Finally, someone speaking some sense. It’s the most competitive league in the world where clubs have silly money to spend. I mean, we were playing in a near billion pound arena last night - if that doesn’t tell you the obvious I don’t know what will! And that’s just Spurs!!!! We’ll stay up comfortably in the end although it hasn’t been pretty at times. Roy is the man for the job currently ... Where else is there really for us to go? With our dilapidated stadium & years of no investment. A few more wins and we’d be where West Ham & Watford are which is all we’ll be able to achieve all things considered. So throw all caution out the window, increase our chances of getting relegated for an extra 9 points during a season. Some of our fans are getting like Charlton and look what happened to them ... and they had a decade in the top flight. We’re still punching ... and until such a time a proper investor comes in we always will be.

If it hadn't been for similar appalling, negative, clueless performances under Hodgson this season, I may well have thought (it being the Spuds big day) that a gentlemanly handshake went on in the boardroom before the game.

Could of been a different conversation all together if pva,s cross come shot goes in and benteke gets that header on target and even if wilf’s shot goes in we could be discussing a 2-3 win but never mind

I am no more impressed with our continued lacklustre performances than anyone else but surely the problem goes deeper than the impact Roy has. What do the coaching staff do with our players each week? How can any team win a football match without having shots on goal? We seem to be clueless once we go behind and show a complete lack of ambition. It's the same old $hite every match ... BORING BORING BORING.
