it doesnt take a rocket scientist to see the direction of things. The Crusades were a thousand years ago. Relations between christian and muslim communities are fragile. So maybe peacemaking can start with prevention (rather than cure).

I haven't read all of this thread and won't but I just wanted to comment on the way that the New Zealand people have responded has been heart warming and an example to us all, from Mrs Ardern, one of the victim's husband and everyone else. the outpouring of both grief and love is obviously very genuine. We could learn a great deal from this. So well done to them.

I was in New Zealand for 2 months just over a year ago and spent some time in Christchurch. I was struck then about how homogenous a community it was, with the many different strands showing genuine affection and respect for each other's culture. It is really quite extraordinary to witness first hand and the current reaction is therefore no real surprise to me.

For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally.

Tip of the iceberg unfortunately.

I would never watch these videos as I believe this gives killers air time and attention they crave. I urge others to do the same.

Yes I can't imagine that the combined mass result of watching it brings about anything other than sadness or rage.

Cue the same old platitudes from all the politicians.

The rhetoric is starting to wear very thin.

Agreed. These extreme incidents need to be treated with practical seriousness, rather than as an inconvenience to the perception of this ideology or that.

I will say that the NZ people have conducted themselves with much dignity over this. The Haka performed by students and bikers yesterday was touching.

Today's radical nutjob in Utrecht has been arrested at least

Yep, platitudes aplenty. None of it makes the slightest bit of difference though to what is going to happen.

There will be countries I can name who won't be getting revenge attacks though...and won't be seeing the murder of Muslims neither.

The people who are really to blame for all this are long dead miscalculating politicians but their ideological descendants are still in power and with us dominating all the institutions. They will be using misdirection and pointing the finger at scapegoats....most of them believing their sentiments.

And for those who are a little smarter....well few people like inconvenient truths when comfortable lies are available.
