Papers are saying that Newcastle are now safe , who have one point more than us . Does this mean if we get a draw or better tonight then we are safe ?

None of those on around the 30 point point mark are technically safe, however if we attain a point tonight we will be at least 6 pts clear of the drop zone with goal difference in our favour and 10 games remaining.Even I will start to feel optimistic !

I'm curious as to where that magic safety number thread has gone always found that interesting and insightful but wouldn't it be around by now?

Now's not the time for complacency, there are points to be had, and who knows, we could finish in the top 10.
In our favour is the fact that the management and the team have previous experience of the situation. For me this is invaluable.
Roy has us well drilled defensively and we have players available.
Against Leicester we took out chances and if we can carry on in that manner we will be fine.

Three wins should see us safe? That would give us 39 points, meaning Cardiff would have to win five out of ten to overtake us. So: Brighton, Huddersfield and Bournemouth for the nine points?
Good to see that Brighton are now fourth favourite for the drop. However, Cardiff are odds-on to go down, and their run-in looks very bad for them.
The one troubling factor is the injuries to AWB and Sakho. Our defence looked shaky last night without them.

I would say that we are safe, just! Think we will get the additional points needed but without Sakho it will now be a struggle. Think our cup chances are also diminished without him. Back four looked weak last night but they won’t be up against top 6 sides every week?

I also think we will be safe, but in certain games we have handed the momentum to the opposition (particularly at home) by playing passively, and inevitably the opposition has scored first, meaning we are playing catch up. I don't understand why we need to go behind before we kick our arses into gear.
Given recent quotes in the media regarding Hodgson's methods this negativity and passivity is solely down to his tactical approach. Meyer must have more game time, he is the creative spark in midfield that we have been lacking. And while I'm here I'd like to say that I would be happy to never see Benteke in a Palace shirt again, he offers absolutely nothing.

I cannot see us going down but with this squad, and a settled pre season, we should have been nowhere near it this season.

Trump lost. Badly. Hahahahahahaha.

In some games it appears that we are paying the opponents far too much respect by just sitting off, getting behind the ball into our shape and allowing opponents to gain more possession. We have not taken a really positive approach, challenged them, pressed them etc etc but of course football can be played in different ways. Some teams employ a high-press some play a counter-attacking game etc etc.

In terms of Hodgson he is a villain when we lose but a hero when we win !

We are at our best when we play counter attacking football. Always have been, always will be. We have speed, just lack a consistent goal scorer / front man. I guess that's why Roy adopts this 'style' of play?!?!?!?

I couldn't, with confidence, tell anyone what our footballing ethos is these days though. Not sure even Roy knows at times ... lol

But, if we stay up again (!) ... then f*ck it, who cares!
