I don’t want to jump up and down over a good or bad result. Today was disappointing not from how the team played but how they were set up. 4,5,1 was only going to invite Chelsea to hog possession and it was inevitable they would eventually score. It was only when Wickham came on and Wilf moved to the wing did the whole team open up and start attacking. By then though we were chasing the game with only a quarter of the match left. Why did we not attack from minute one? It may have been 2-1 or 3-2 and we still may have lost but after the City game and the attacking we showed against Cardiff I would have thought this was a game when the attacking momentum should have been maintained. I sat with a Chelsea fan / friend who whilst happy with the result totally agreed with me. Before the match he seriously thought Palace could win. Normally I feel Roy’s tactics are pretty much on the button whether we win, draw or lose. Today however I felt he was far too timid.
Always remembering walking from the Holmesdale to the Whitehorse end at half time! |

One of those days when we scored two goals from distance and a breakaway pen. Chelsea were much better than City out of possession.

Hodgson set us up to be disciplined and organised but this resulted in us being totally negative and paid Chelsea far too much respect. It was a stroll for them - we never laid a glove on them and never posed them any serious questions. It really was a hard watch for us supporters having to put up with that dour performance. Can’t remember being so bored at a Palace match. Players didn’t seem interested , crowd was flat. Never looked like scoring. 7 games one month more matches coming up fast and relatively limited squad. Not surprising energy levels low and needing conserving. One thing, glad I am no longer a season ticket holder. Our fans deserve more than the crap currently being dished up at home.

Edited by Willo (30 Dec 2018 5.27pm) According to the BBC we failed to record a single shot on target for the first time in a home game since March 2017, its the points we give up at home that is of concern, 1 point from the last two is not good enough and unless we can change that, then I fear 2019 and what it may bring!

Not beating Cardiff after the stupendous win at Man C was a real let-down and disappointment.Chelsea are a different proposition altogether but our dour, negative tactics played into their hands and allowed them to control the game. No matter which striker we sign in January if he is deployed as a lone striker using the same tactics as today he will struggle to deliver. We need to get on the front foot and be more positive and really ask questions of these sides at home.We cannot pay them so much respect.

This has been a recurring problem for some time, linked to our lack in attack. JMac's goal against Burnley on 16 mins is our fastest strike at home this season.

Ten home matches this season and not a single goal from inside the area. While commenting, gotta say that I am hoarse from berating Kouyate. Wtf did he actually do today? I think I broke more of a sweat than he did.

I feel Roy is hiding behind this view of lack of attacking options.
