I don't think there was any malice intended. Fox isn't that sort of player. I think it was just a bit of over exuberance and all the lads were obviously pumped up at the start.

We're not used to facing opponents of the standard of Townsend every week.

The ref should have stuck with his first impressions as the two players came together, not a clinical VAR image ..shame as it ruined what should have been an open game.

Thank you for coming back on HH and best of luck for the rest of the season, playing against 10 men camped in the last third of the pitch showing no sign of any attacking intentions didnt make it easy for us but in the end I think you have to agree we deserved the win.

Too many games are totally ruined as a spectacle by red cards.

And too many careers have been prematurely ended by tackles like that regardless of whether it was malicious or not. I have no doubt Fox didn’t mean to hurt Townsend but if his full weight was on that leg when contact was made it could have been broken.

As soon as you go in with your studs up and not in full control you face the possibility of a red card. Every professional at every level knows this.

A red should become the offender leaving the field of play and banned from playing with no pay for the duration that the severity of the foul warrants, the team should not be punished for an individuals mistake, another player should be allowed to replace him immediately.

So we could have a patsy to start against, say, Liverpool with the sole intention of hospitalising Salah before being replaced by someone decent?

Letting down the team is one of the deterrents that stops players becoming the next 'Vinnie'.

I think there's a problem about revisiting a decision where the ref has made a judgment call, as on Saturday. VAR is good for judgments of fact, such as offside and goal-lines. Not so sure about this one, although it was an appalling foul. I felt sorry for the Grimsby on their big day out - but relieved at no mid-week replay for us!

That is my biggest gripe with this issue. A premiership ref did not deem that foul was a straight red!! Had he, the issue of VAR would not have been debated

Two words. Iain Evans.

was it George best?
If it was not Evans, GB definatly finished the career of another palace player?
Dont think he was Utd then, poss Fulham when he was towards end.

It was Best, during his Fulham days.

That's I think the fourth time this season a PL ref has thought yellow card was the appropriate sanction for assaulting a Palace player like that. The VAR red card proves that all those decisions were bulls***.
