As much talk as there is about Zaha, I view it as more likely that we lose AWB. For Man U (or Arsenal) who are in dire need of a good right back, paying 50mm for a 21 year old, who will (hopefully) be your right back for 10 years - that may be a good price. Plus his wages are probably reasonable (for now). For Zaha, yes, he's 26, and in his prime, and he's more proven, but paying 80 - 100 million is a lot of money, and you probably have 4 good years. Plus he's going to want more wages when he signs with them. I know wingers are more valuable than right backs, but I think AWB is going and Zaha is staying.

You’re right that AWB is more marketable but by the same token that makes it more likely that Parish will hold out for something extortionate - his value is only going to appreciate. I saw 60 mill mentioned. That feels more like next years price than this but that is a reasonable position to take when there’s no need to sell. Could someone be in at that price? I’m dubious. If reports have any substance, then Man Utd are preparing a £25m bid. In todays market I don't think that's nearly enough. I think Palace will sell for the right price, but I think joining Utd given where they are at the moment would be a huge risk for the player.

Any transfer of AWB to Utd should include the cancellation of Wilfs sell on fee to them.

We've got to hold on to AWB for as long as possible. £50 million for a young and relatively inexperienced player is a lot, but he'll be worth up to triple that in five years.

Oh undoubtedly, we should be pushing for closer to £50m with performance based clauses, like international appearances etc. plus the cancellation. The main thing is to make sure that at the end of the day, should we chose to sell Zaha, it's on our terms and for all the fee. You almost wouuldn't begrudge United some sort of fee if they'd added anything to his development but it's been us that's had to rebuild him from his time there.

Good grief. Honestly if United came in at 50 mil I would sell the lad, he is a fantastic prospect but there is no way we can keep him for 5 more years. That should mean we can play hard ball on Zaha and keep him at Palace for many years to come.
Trump lost. Badly. Hahahahahahaha. |
