Biggest criticism of the players i have is that they weren't up for it. A lot of them look like they think it is a punishment to be in the cup team instead of an opportunity

plenty of effort, absolutely no invention. Boro defence was well organised and we couldn't unlock it. I always through the difference between prem and champ was pace. we had no pace last night.

The performance feels no better after a good nights sleep and a full english...

4 playoff finals, Claridge, Hopkin, Shipperley, Phillips....

Life's never dull!

I posted yesterday about Middlesbrough's defensive record in terms of goals conceded. This is what one has come to expect of a team managed by Pulis.

As for us,no goals,no invention - very disappointing and worrying.

Let's face it - our first XI is poor compared to last season and our backup players are even worse. This was a chance to play a near-first team and get a win and some confidence. Instead we played a reserve team. I'd have preferred to have seen Woods, Kirby, Daly etc given a chance - see if they're good enough as AWB has turned out to be. Sorry, but Roy is clueless.

Yes we made 8 changes but so did they. Equally our squad included some players who cost decent money.

We get Roy wondering what on earth is going on really but we seemed to send a team out with no idea if there was a game plan let alone what it was?

I wonder (and I have raised this with reference to use of subs,) does Roy actually bother with those outside his first 11? They just seem to have no idea.

Or maybe the big jar marked price and passion got emptied at the weekend and we had no time to fill it up.

Yesterday was to me another example that a a whole club, we are going backwards.

But according to Hodgson "..... they didn't let me down in any shape or form,".

9 wasted corners. We haven't looked dangerous at corners since Scotty Dann got injured and we rarely retain possession from our own throwins.

I'm naturally disappointed but hardly surprised.

This game was always going to be about scoring the first goal. If it had been Palace, I reckon we would have won the match. But if we had to chase it...well we saw what happened.

If I restrict comments to Meyer, Sorloth and Ayew , Meyer is a player that needs to settle into a rhythm by playing 90 minutes on a regular basis. Otherwise it's difficult to see him progressing and settling into football in this country.

Sorloth looks like a panic buy - and not a cheap one at that. It's really hard to see this player developing into the level of quality required even at Championship level.

Ayew - a last minute desperation deal. How on earth did the guy score 11 goals last season ?! I would say send him back in January, but I have little confidence in the club signing a quality alternative.

Yes, Burton at home would have been an opportunity to get into the semi finals, but we have a relegation battle ahead so at least now the focus can be on that.

'In Roy we trust', and he has faith in them, so.....

Kalkai deserves a run, not 6 minutes, IMO.

Subs an RH weak spot.
