ISTR many years ago Arse scored a goal they weren't "supposed" to in circumstances like these. A quick Google reminds me that it was Kanu in 1999 who played on and Overmars who scored against Sheffield United in the Fifth Round of the FA Cup; the match was replayed at the suggestion of Arsene Wenger. The excuse was made for Kanu that he had recently arrived on the banana boat and didn't know the custom; Overmars could legitimately make no such claim. Arsenal won the rematch 2-1.

The answer to the OP's question is that the goal of course would have stood. The situation of "giving the ball back" is an unwritten rule of etiquette and isn't covered by the Laws.

No need for that comment, out of order

No, he didn't shoot however it is customary to kick the ball gently back to the keeper and not whack it as hard as you can in his general direction. the idea is supposed to be that you give him the ball in hand when he has just kicked it out of play for your benefit.

Anyway he looked suitably embarrassed after doing it.

When Wenger made the suggestion the FA had never previously agreed to replay a game that had a result. Was Wenger being sincere or was he surprised when the FA said yes?

Didn’t Millwall accidentally score like this once and let the opposition striker just run through and score a reply?

He didn't shoot, he was hitting to Hennessey and sliced it. He was embarrassed by it and it was obvious he didn't try to "score".

Week in and week out I watch the team play and wonder why they seem to make it look so difficult. Simple passes to players in space, a decent cross from the wing.. We just seem to prefer to make the game harder than it needs to be.

Per Meyer.. I agree with many in that I think he looks good and adds a much-needed element in the midfield. However, once he came on we continued to play the ball down the wings and his touches were limited. I too would like to see him in the starting 11.

I am worried about us this season. We have created very few chances despite decent possession and I don't see how that will change. I see us near the relegation zone this time and it is once again because our board has not spent money on the necessary players. Another striker was essential and not some relegated twice, loan makeweight. Just not good enough if you want to stay in the Prem.

Personally I think we look unbalanced at ghd moment. At the start of the season, we had benteke up front with wilf playing off him ( more central. And schlupp on the left side if midfield, with a great little triangle of him PVA and wilf going forward one side and andros, Aaron and macca on the other side.

Looking at yesterday, we were all over the place. Ayews a center forward who doesn't stay in the center. Wilf is playing too wide and having to track back because macca was playing left midfield leaving pva exposed...looked so unbalanced. Meyer/schlupp should havd started on the left, kayoute/macca should havd started right side and Ayew told to stay center or play Sorloth.

Ayew kinda reminded me of the Cameron Jerome/Frazier Campbell role of mainly running down the wings and never going to get a sniff of a chance.

Just stop and think that if we had buried (as we should have) three easy headers, Ward v Watford 1 point, Benteke v Soton 1 point and Sakho v Newcastle 2 points we would have been in 6th position with 11 points and above Man Utd. Such fine margins in football. Can't understand why you think we are relegation fodder yet.
