Cannot believe anyone with a braincell is entertaining us selling our only fit striker.

We only have ONE fit striker. Just in case you cannot count. That is one less than TWO. In an ideal world we'd have three.

Selling Benteke would require us having to buy two strikers and then we'd be trying to integrate two players at a key part of the season. For real?

This thread is a nonsense! Sell Benteke, if we get £30 million + then grab it, we play better without him etc etc

With this reckoning - we should just sell, don’t even bother replacing him (as last time we did that by selling Gayle & Murray that worked out really well) & invest the money into the main stand development ... Puncheon will no doubt hit form and bag us the goals we need to secure safety anyway!!!

He’s been injured, off form and playing in a dire side. He’s come back and trying to find his feet in a side that now plays differently! He’ll come good ...

You have rather answered your own question there as to what needs to be done. As for integration into the team I would argue that the player struggling to integrate most of all is Benteke because we have scored more goals and looked more dangerous with him out the side than in. No-one on here has suggested we should sell and not replace, of course that would be stupid. If we can find a player that can fit into a mobile front 3 then we can then use the rest of the money to get a cheaper lump replacement. If Benteke truly wants to integrate into this team he needs to be asking himself questions about how to do it. He is definitely not the player to be building the team around.

Seems Benteke keeps his place due to price tag. Sell and get 2 new strikers in. Would not be surprised if Dougie work on such a solution. 10 games played and ZERO goals.....say no more!

The first four games this season were under de Boer and can be discounted as no one in the team understood the tactics. In the fifth game Benteke was injured and has only made two starts since his return from injury, being on the bench for the previous two games. We have six points from those games, the results of which he has contributed to without scoring (you can't ignore the headers won, the knock downs, etc.).

He was the leading scorer last season with a very creditable 15 PL goals, without running around like a headless chicken. Put Zaha back on the wing, with Townsend on the other and RLC through the middle and the goals will come. With our inability to sign strikers there's no way anyone in their right mind would advocate selling last season's leading scorer in the hope of signing two better in January.

Everyone seems to agree with this apart from hodgeson. Seems to want to play 4-2-4 wether it's working or not. I thought when he played Zaha and Townsend up front, we finally had a plan B.....seems not.

You can't live in the past with football. If he comes good great, but what if he doesn't and this barren run just continues, do we just shrug our shoulders and go, "oh well, he was really good last season, shame we have been relegated and he wants to leave at half price now"?

Oh, by the way Dave, if we are sticking with Benteke then I agree with your team set up, Zaha cannot play through the middle with him. He must go out wide and RLC play no 10 role.

Not sure what you understand what my question is. For the avoidance of any doubt, I am asking is anyone seriously thinking we can buy 2 strikers in the next window and integrate in time for them to be effective. I am as unhappy with Benteke's form as the next guy but selling at this moment would be unwise in my view, very. Let's hope Roy works out a formation soon that works coz right now it ain't

not sure we would get that much for him anyway! it would be good if we could recoup our investment but on current form unlikely!

You must be bonkers selling Benkeke would be suicide.
