The past can have influence on how people feel today. That's different to saying we as individuals bear responsibility, however as a nation we should acknowledge the past as it shapes our present.

There is an element of 'reap what you sow' in French history recently. Trace back to The Algerian War of Independence and the locals who fought with the French (the Harkis) having to flee to France to avoid being massacred once the battle was lost. It seems they weren't really allowed to integrate even if patriotic. Hence, the ghettoes. Le Pen senior fought in the Algerian War, was reputedly an evil b******, he was also alleged to have been linked to the attempted coup by De Gaulle supporters and French forces Edited by Y Ddraig Goch (08 May 2017 3.56pm)

Le Pen would have a chance if her economics weren't so barmy. She's a socialist, god knows why she's depicted as "far-right". Couldn't have voted for either. Macron walking out for his victory speech to the EU anthem said it all.
The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money. |
