Wikipedia - goals are in brackets - not good stats at all! 2009–2011 If your going to take your stats from Wiki then at least study them, because you would have noticed his Ipswich stats are when he was only 16-17 years old that makes them very impressive.

If Remy was Plan A and we weren't going to get him, this is better than any of the other Plan B's I've heard mentioned. You should listen to more Plan B Syd. They've got some bonza tunes. I live in High Wycombe so I'm qualified to say that this guy is better than Plan B. Of course he's not wow spastic fantastic the signing of the century, but he's the type of young player we should be going for as he may develop well.

Nobody wanted us to splash £14m on Ramos for a 29year old striker, however accomplished he might be. This is soooo much better. A young english striker, with great physical attributes, who has served his apprenticeship as it were in the PL. AT palace he will get the right service for his attributes, plus very shrewd coaching from AP. Its a very clever and astute signing. All Palace nor need to do is to make a similarly astute signing of a young but experienced CB ( maybe the best of the young championship CB's?)

This as a signing is very sensible - 6m going up to 9m with add ons for a once very promising 22 year old who has had 3 years of PL football in a car crash of a football club with some of the iffiest managers out there (PDC, Pooyet), generally being played out of position. Our obvious Plan A was Remy - Remy isn't going to happen this season obviously so what do we do ? Charlie Austin at 15m is no value for any club, far too risky a signing for a club like ours, and given no-one seems to want to meet the asking price tells its own story. We have upgraded on Frazier Campbell who in all probability will be gone, either a perm or loan for the season to leave us with a permutation of Murray / Gayle / Chamakh / Bamford / Wickham / Yala (if AP so wishes) That isn't too shabby is it ??? Wickham against last seasons signing of Sanogo or Ameobi or Doyle or the geriatric AJ - what's better ?? Or should we only be shopping at Chelsea and PSG these days ??? Has largely been played out wide left at Sunderland, which means his recent record is actually not unimpressive. The last time he got a long spell as a Centre Forward he ended up scoring 5 in 3 including 2 against the champions elect keeping Sunderland up, since then its been bit parts out wide. You are right. He was played out wide with Fletcher or Defoe in the middle. Right-footed so used to cut in from the left.As well as a physical presence, Wickham has a long throw in his armoury and takes free kicks when a wall is formed. Supports Liverpool !

I remember when he was at Ipswich as a 15 year old he played for the under 18s against us and scored a hat-trick. Even at 15 he was over 6ft and a powerful striker.

not sure about this one. watched him throughout England under's, seemed to be a real International prospect but then seems to have faded off, why would Sunderland get rid?
you may not be paranoid, but they really are out to get you... |

Play him up top as a target man and he'll develop into a decent player. Remember he is 22! He made a terrible call going to Sunderland, was played out of position and his form dropped considerably. We'd need to be careful though. He likes to party and isn't what you'd call a 'model pro'. It's important the senior players work on this kid and make him realise his potential. As fans we need to be patient too. Edited by laddo (31 Jul 2015 8.37am)

What? So if we had a free kick just outside the box and the opposition decided they could not bother with 'a wall' Wickham would say 'nah, not for me?'

I've been suggesting him since we got promoted. When given proper gametime at Sunderland he has produced the goods. Also ticks all the box's for a 2010 transfer. Quality player & defo an upgrade on what we have now...what we all wanted really. Even if he wasn't the one some wanted. Over the moon
