I was at Ayresome Park when Palace got promoted. The Middlesborough fans stayed behind after the (boring draw) game to specifically clap the Palace players who did a lap of honour.

Such damned plastics those Borough fans, what were they thinking? Surely they should have been exercising causal disregard.

Different context. For one thing, we will be celebrating our own very important achievement that day, which as I recall Middlesborough were not particularly doing back then.

If this was "any other game" for Palace (i.e. just a meaningless end-of-season encounter in a meaningless season in which we'd finished mid-table for the fifth year running) then possibly we might be indifferent to a bit of Liverpool partying. But the fact is, the pent-up emotion of the relegation battle and the positive momentum of recent weeks make the Liverpool game the summit of a massive Palace achievement and an opportunity for our supporters to take centre stage and release their emotions. I suspect those are likely to be considerable, given how proud we are all are.

As others have said, Liverpool can do that at Anfield the following week. That'll be their moment to let their hair down.

One of the standards Palace, and Palace supporters in particular, have set this year is to turn the clocks back to the sort of passionate and noisy support you could expect at games when I grew up, when simply being at a football match was an experience (for the noise and singing alone). The perfect way to end a season in which our team and fans have achieved so much would be -- on national TV -- to show Palace fans supporting Palace, completely indifferent to the bigger picture. Because that's the sort of attitude that once made football great and we are trying to engender again. It's why commentators, players, and other supporters are all talking about us.

If you want other teams partying in your front room then all that'll be left of the game is a prawn sandwich. How we behave on Monday week will make a statement about what we are, what we believe, and for that matter what's really good about football.

Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God.

OP, can you tell me your address as I need to send you an invoice for the new monitor I've had to buy after putting my foot through my old one after reading your comment.

What are you thinking OP? Sing YNWA at Selhurst with the Liverpool fans? Is this some kind of weird alternate universe or something? I for one want us to turn Liverpool over for the same reason I wanted us to do the same over Chelsea, Villa, Everton, West Ham and everyone we've beaten this season as when they see our name on the fixtures list, most of their fans think "well that's 3 points for us then". I'm damn sure 99% of their fans will be in Selhurst expecting us to roll over and give them the points they need to win the league and if the worse should happen, I won't be bloody celebrating with them.

What kind of a message does that give our lads who have massively exceeded and proved wrong so many people by being where we are at the moment, if at the end of the last game of the season at home we're all singing YNWA? It would be like a massive two fingers up to them. No, I'll be clapping and singing for our players come the end of the game regardless of the result and treating Liverpool with the same causal disregard that I do every team that we play at Selhurst.

There is a difference between a clap and singing their own song FFcv****gSakes.

OK, let's give them the clap then.

Now we can all agree.

If they sing Glad All Over are we allowed to join in?

Would any of the w@nkers advocating that we sing the scousers anthem at our ground, would you expect Fulham to sing Glad all over at their place on the last day?

The very idea is embarrassing.

You really think they'd do that, probably having just won their first ever Premiership title?

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

YNWA is Gerry & The Pacemakers and Mersy Beat and

GAO is Dave Clark 5 and London Beat.

They aren't going to sing GAO.

I'd like to clap them and hold what looks like is going to be a cringe banner up, only it saying 'The Stones were rock, the Beatles were c0ck'

Can't be bothered to read the whole thread but sing you'll never walk along? Are you mental?!

I'd consider giving them a clap but jeez, sing their song... steady on.

^^^^ Exactly this. If we finished mid table in the Championship after a pretty tepid season with little to write home about and we played a team that was fairly neutral to us, but had achieved something amazing like promotion, then I'm not beyond giving them a polite clap. World of difference to singing another teams song, especially one of the "big six" who demand success every season and swagger with the arrogance of expecting to turn us over every game. We've managed to get a reputation for reportedly the best supporters in the premier league thanks to the vocal support of the fans. Would you not think that somehow it would send out a message that we now "know our place" as we've bowed down to the mighty scousers (as no doubt they would need to win the game to win the league thus triggering this proposed singing debacle) and are now so humble that we've started singing their songs? We'd look like a bunch of f*cking w@nkers frankly.

As for your comment MT, not sure what plastic fans have to do with any of this but personally whatever team plays Palace I don't give two hoots about and have no interest (a casual disregard if you will) in their achievements unless they achieve something of particular worth or it's one of our traditional rivals. Personally I don't think Liverpool winning the league fits in with that as it'll always be one of the "big six" who win it, unless another team goes through a complete restructure with an incredible amount of investment from a foreign sugar daddy.

Frankly the finishing locations in the league for those six clubs doesn't interest me at all, nor does who wins the league. All I'm interested in is Palace beating Liverpool so I can have bragging rights over a work mate of mine come Tuesday morning. I really couldn't give a flying f*ck if Liverpool, Chelsea or Man City win the league and I certainly won't be singing YNWA if Liverpool win it.

If they didn't have Suarez or about 16 fewer games to play they'd be 3rd at best. Fair play for not practically buying it though.

I would happily clap Liverpool if they won it mathematically at Selhurst and they paraded a trophy around. But singing their songs, with them? Not for me.

I respect them as champions and they have done well. They deserve a clap of respect, not flattering them by singing their songs.

Lets just make sure that the Liverpool fans know our songs by the end of the match.
