As a lesbian myself I get really pissed off at tossers campaigning on behalf of me and actually creating an issue that isn't really there. If you are gay, so what, no different from being straight in terms of how people treat you unless you walk around advertising the fact that your gay. People are different,we have fat, thin, ginger, disabled, beautiful, ugly ect ect, is there going to be campaigns on their behalf?.
As some have said, bringing attention and banging the drum about how unfair life is, will cause resentment.
So please don't campaign on my behalf and don't get offended on my behalf either. I actually found the jokes on here quite funny. Talking of which Nike have just launched their first Lesbian trainers, they have an extra long tongue and you can get them off with one finger.

My view put into more intellectual words

There is a reason why so few football players have revealed that they are gay. It is because they have observed the culture surrounding football and have feared the consequences of publicising their sexuality. They fear they will be bullied and ridiculed simply for admitting their true inner most feelings - this isn't something that any normal, decent human being should be expected to tolerate. Football does not provide an excuse or environment that allows people to bully people - which is what racism, and homophobia are forms of.

I want the best players at Palace and I want the best fans and the sexuality of any individual is totally irrelevant to either of these things. I'm really proud that Palace will publish their support for campaigns against Homophobia.

There is absolutely nothing to fear. Let's be cool about this. We are the Palace and we don't go round quoting the bloody bible very often do we?

Joe Hart looks angrier than a kid with no Easter eggs, David Silva looks like he won't smile for a week. Vincent Kompany has taken his shirt off and looks like he might just start a fight with himself. The visiting dressing room will be a glum place.

Don't really think you are the target of this campaign. Isn't it aimed at making it easier to be an openly gay professional footballer?

Im not being funny why are gays getting all of this love and special treatment. Legalising Gay marriage, people in general accepting fruits exist, There taking the piss now they want even more lime light by getting into all this football lark. I suggest a campaign for those such as my self who are really offended by gays and certain ethic people who get everything done for them yet still play the victim in order to gain more and call anyone who disagrees with them a right wing thug. ITS BOLLOCKS, some people are so blinded by the fact the bandits are just doing it for more attention and praise from everyone. GAYS LOVE PUBLICITY!!!!! Homosexuality is a sin. THE BIBLE SAYS SO!!!!

...that Jesus bloke loved hanging out with the boys though didn't he?

You can't say that black people can't be upset about slavery because "it happened ages ago" and then use a book of religious bulls*** that's even older than slavery to decry homosexuality.

That would make one look a tad silly.

The bible quote was more tongue in cheek. Tell me this then, How can a African 22 year old have been affected by slavery.

...tongue in cheek can oft be lost amongst incoherent ramblings.

In all seriousness though, whilst I agree that any campaign launched on behalf of a minority shouldn't be forced upon the majority, I can't help but think that those who have their nose put out of joint by this particular campaign are grumbling unnecessarily.
How is a campaign not aimed t you able to get you so wound up?

You might be a full on militant homophobe, or you might be a full on out-of the-closet homosexual, either way you yourself aren't being asked to do anything in support of this campaign.

Nobodies asking you to clap/chant in favour of it, wear a slogan on a t-shirt, or sign up to suck a dick: the club & the players have decided to offer a minimal amount of effort in favour of a socially current issue/campaign.
And let's not forget, it might be outside of football, but the Russia/Putin/Olympic/Gay issue is particularly high profile right now, and if the highest profile football league in the world wants to do a bit to oppose Putin/Russia's archaic views, then good on them.

After all, there's a high profile football tournament going there fairly soon.

A child isn't born racist, homophobic or against many other aspects of life.

Raising awareness only draws attention to it - if the whole world just dropped all the agenda's, let people do what they wanted, so long as it wasn't detrimental to others, i would expect all this would go away.

Who cares what skin colour someone is, a child doesn't. Who cares who loves who, a child doesn't.

I guess what i am saying is that drawing attention to it will make a child question their beliefs - parents will do their best but i just find all these things are unnecessary.

Let's just play football.

A child loves Haribo, and Paedophiles know this.

Are you suggesting that we need a campaign to raise awareness in children to the threat of Haribo?

I read that as the threat of Hambo...

Self-righteous frothing and spluttering is always a joy to witness.

We are into page 4 and still no tangibility to how gay people are discriminated against at football and by whom and even if they are what the f*** anyone's supposed to do about it.

Its just another ill thought out knee jerk 'right on' campaign to a prejudice that isn't seemingly there or if it is it certainly unwarranted.

What are these 11 clubs actually going to be doing ????

Edited by The Sash (06 Feb 2014 8.00pm)

Still waiting for someone to clarify how anyone's rights are being denied and/or anyone is being in some way discriminated against to such a degree that this sort of campaign becomes necessary.

Quite right. No such thing as indirect discrimination which was merely created to give employment lawyers work to do.

Can anyone remind me how many 'out' gay footballers there are again please. There are at least 4,000 professional footballers in the UK so 1.5% of that is 60 gay (excluding bisexual) footballers.

Oh for goodness sake. There is a small group of gay men in professional football that have not come out. People wonder why they haven't come out and suspect it is due to deep rooted anti-gay sentiment. Well no sh*t Sherlock, you just have to read HOL.

It's not a big issue but it is indicative of a wider issue of intolerance.

A few people decide to try to do something about it, presumably a mix of straight and gay people. Everyone gets fired up saying it's not needed, will rock the boat too much, blah blah.

The inherent conservatism on this site is mind-boggling and sadly I assume reflects the broader football supporting family. And I would have thought that - living where we do and drawing supporters from a reasonably tolerant and educated pool - we can't be the worst.

People even have a pop at the HF, one of the few unique things we have going for us.

I bl**dy wish people would stop moaning and try to actually be 'do-gooders'. Why is that a pejorative label? Stop sitting on your a*se carping and find something to improve.

This particular initiative will probably get nowhere but just maybe will be part of a bigger build up of pressure to change attitudes and open eyes.
