Steve, how o you feel about the name Steve for a new manager? Seriously though, right decision today, but I don't see why someone would sack the manager at this time without having someone lined up. Is that your thinking?

Hi Steve. I've been really encouraged by most of what you've said and done since taking over but, to be honest, that changed today. I've copied below some queries and obseverations I've posed on the forum earlier today and, as yet, I don't think anyone's come close to countering the points I've made. I'd appreciate it if you'd give it a shot - I'd certainly like some assurances as to your reasoning and your plans for the future as I think George Burley has been very, very unlucky.
How you can say it is undoubtedly the right thing to sack a manager after only a few months, when we're not really performing a lot worse than we expected to, and when there's a crucial transger window already upon us is beyond me. The facts speak for themselves: The board said that they had the long term in mind and were prepared to back Burley. The most successful managers are those given time to develop their ideas. Burley has great experience and proven success at this level. Plenty of teams who have struggled in the first half of a season have gone on to have a decent year. Doncaster last season would be the prime example - I believe they were in the relegation zone at Christmas but look at them now. Teams who panic get nowhere - especially in the long term. Burley had an unbelievable amount of bad luck - key injuries in an already wager-thin squad and some abysmal refereeing decsions at crucial times (Sheffield Utd the best example). I haven't seen anything to effectively counter any of these points I'm afraid - and I can't see anyone of simlar capability/track record who realistically may take the job. Undoubtedly a good decision???

Did you expect too much of Burley? Did you put him under too much pressure by mentioning hopes of promotion when you took over? Were you unrealistic in expecting anything other than a relegation fight this year? Given the state of the squad Burley inherited and the minimal amount of money he spent adding to it did he really not merit some support in the January window before it would have been properly fair to say he'd failed?

Why sack Burley two days before a very important match against Preston? What happens if the next manager doesn't do well with such a small squad, will he be sacked as well?
We lost 3 0 to scunthorpe, wage bill 50% of ours, we lost 3 0 to Millwall today, I dont know what theres is but its basically the side that got promoted from League one plus sone low cost or free signings. swansea dont have a bigger wage bill than us. Ok Bors is 5x's ours but ....... we lost two players who were first team regulars at the end of the season in CH and SD. Other than that the players were let go or sold by the manager.

Do you think George Burley by taking the Palace job was on a hiding to nothing,in much the same way Alan Smith was the last time we came out of administration? Decimated squad,no coaching staff, embargo,it would take one hell of a manager to turn it all around in six months.

Hi Steve, I find it great that you interact with the fans so well, so thanks very much. Just a couple of questions, do you think it is necessary to get rid of the current coaching team and start a fresh with a new manager and his staff? Secondly, will the new manager be given sufficient funds to turn our season around or will we be reliant on loans once again? Thanks JC depends what the new man wants, I think whoever we pick needs to be happy with what he has around him

Steve: 1. There have been a lot of rumours -- and I realise that you're not going to speak directly to rumours for legal reasons -- about certain aspects of George Burley's behaviour and general personal conduct both in recent months and before he came to Palace. Without, as I said, directly addressing the rumours, do you feel you did adequate due diligence on Burley prior to hiring him last summer? Results aside, do you feel personally let down by where things have ended up. Yes or no answer will do. 2. It's often said, and I'm sure you agree it's true, that a well run organisation rehearses various scenarios and thus has solutions to problems at hand as soon as those problems become real. Without implying that you'd interview candidates for the manager's position while you had a manager in place, would it be fair to say that you've given some thought to what you'd do in the situation in which you now find yourself and, as a result, you're already hitting the ground running in the search for a permanent manager? 3. To what extent did George acknowledge to you that it hadn't worked out? Did he give any indication that things had plummeted to a lower point than he'd anticipated and, if yes, did he give any reason why he thought we'd reached this point in terms of our performances on the pitch? I'm sure he believes he could have turned things round, given time, but was he shocked just how poorly things had become? Did he acknowledge that, for want of a better expression, we really are in a pretty desperate place? 4. Given that, short of a very quick hire, we now enter the transfer window with significant change needed and no manager in place, who's going to drive personnel decisions from here on?

You as owners have the final say on players coming in or going.
